Each week I submit a Tri-Partisan column to WRALSportsFan.com, and here is this week's feature where I take a look at how NC State is facing a situation similar to 2016 when the Wolfpack also had to replace a multi-year starting quarterback.

WRALSportsFan: In Search Of Next QB, Doeren Back In Familiar Situation

NC State's 2018 season came to a screeching halt on New Year's Eve with the Wolfpack falling 52-13 to No. 20 Texas A&M in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. I could spend this column talking about what all went wrong for NC State, but do I really need to with that type of outcome? Honestly, if you're reading this you probably don't want to think about that game much anyway, so let's look ahead to what is on the horizon for Wolfpack football.

What stands out to me most is that Dave Doeren has been in nearly this exact situation before.

Rewind to December 30, 2015 in Charlotte when NC State was thumped 52-28 by Mississippi State in the Belk Bowl. It wasn't pretty at all, and four days later Doeren decided to fire offensive coordinator Matt Canada, wanting to take the program’s offense in a different direction.

With that Belk Bowl being Jacoby Brissett's final game, NC State also had no clue what they were going to have at quarterback moving forward. So just days after the bowl, Doeren had questions to answer. Who is going to be the new offensive coordinator? What type of offense will be implemented? Who is going to be the next starting quarterback?
