What did it feel like getting your first career start?
It felt great.
Going into the week knowing my teammates and my coaches had my back, I was able to play fast out there.
It felt great.
You went through a pretty serious injury at the high school level. How much do you feel like the last year-plus has allowed you to prove what you’re capable of?
First, I just want to thank God. Without Him, I wouldn’t be anything.
I’m very blessed, and I know the work I’ve put in and everything I’ve done to get to this point.
It’s all paying off at this point.
What do you think you’ve improved the most to get on the field and play as much as you did this past week?
Just the mental aspect of it.
Physically, I was already physical and everything.
I just had to make sure I knew the ins and outs of the playbook.
What does it mean that your teammates and coaches wanted you on the field?
In practice, they saw different parts of me and everything.
But I’m a freshman, so they wanted to know if I had the maturity level for everything.
They found out I do.
What has it been like to see a guy like Elijah Satchell get these opportunities early in his career as well?
Elijah and I came in together during the spring.
That’s actually my roommate.
We’ve talked since day one. We wanted to make this happen.
I just told him to stay the course, and that’s what he did.
How much do you guys try to motivate each other every day?
Every day.
With me, I don’t really harp on the good stuff you do. I harp on the bad stuff.
Because if you do the bad stuff right, it’s eventually going to become good.
That’s what I tell him.
Was there a moment in the game that really stuck out to you, where it hit you that you were out there playing?
I would definitely say the first drive.
Just being out there, the atmosphere, the fans, everything.
That was probably the moment for me.
Does knowing the history of the linebacker room here at NC State help motivate you?
Yeah, it motivates me.
But it doesn’t put any pressure on me because I feel like where I come from, I was made for the spotlight.
Every day I work like the spotlight is on me.
When the opportunity came, I showed up.
You mentioned Elijah. What’s it like having Jordan Moreta out there playing linebacker as well?
Jordan Moreta? Yeah, that’s my roommate also.
We all came in together.
Me, him, Chino — we all came in together, so like I said, we talk day in and day out about it.
J-Mo and I — that’s what we call him — actually play linebacker together. He played Mike, I played Will, and he’s started playing a little bit of Will, too.
We quiz each other. We try to quiz each other every day and every night and make sure we’ve got the Mike and Will down.
That’s how we help each other.
