RELEASE: Chubb, Warren Jerseys To Be Honored
Director of Athletics Deborah A. Yow announced today that NC State will commemorate the stellar careers of football's Bradley Chubb and men's basketball standout T.J. Warren by honoring their jerseys. Chubb's name and number will be displayed in Carter-Finley Stadium, while Warren's will hang from the rafters of PNC Arena.
Chubb was the No. 5 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft after a Wolfpack career that saw him set the Wolfpack career records for tackles for loss and sacks. The 2017 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, he was a consensus All-American and won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy – given to the nation's top defensive player.
For his last two seasons at NC State, Chubb wore the No. 9 jersey, which had also been worn by Mario Williams, the No. 1 pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. In the future, any standout player designated by head coach Dave Doeren to wear that number will wear a patch honoring Williams and Chubb.
"I am very humbled by this honor and wish I could share it with my Wolfpack teammates," said Chubb. "NC State will always be a very special place for me, and having my name up in Carter-Finley Stadium is a dream come true. I was very proud to wear No. 9 because of Mario Williiams and hope that future players wearing it will be proud to represent me as well."
"Bradley was a special player, and we are so proud of his accomplishments," said Doeren. "In addition to the records he set and the honors he won, he loved his teammates and NC State and was a great leader. He deserves to have his name next to the other Wolfpack legends, and we look forward to working with him and the Broncos on a date when he can come back to a game in Carter-Finley Stadium.
Warren was a lottery selection of the Phoenix Suns in the 2014 NBA Draft following a stellar two-year career at NC State. He was just the third player in ACC history to finish the season leading the conference in scoring and field goal percentage on his way to collecting ACC Player of the Year honors from both coaches and media in 2014. His 24.9 points per game average that season is the fifth-highest single season mark in program history.
"I'm very proud to be honored along with all the other former great players in Wolfpack history," said Warren. "NC State is a very special place."
The Durham native has started 124 of the Suns' 131 games over the past two seasons. In 2017-18, he averaged a career-best 19.6 points per game which ranked 24th in the NBA.
At NC State, he wore jersey No. 24, which was also worn by honored players Tommy Burleson, Tom Gugliotta, John Richter, and Julius Hodge.
An announcement on when Chubb and Warren can return for their official jersey ceremonies will be announced at a later time and be based on their respective schedules.
