I think you are on to something with timing being used as possible bait for the selection committee to look favorably on the Pack for the tournament. However, I don't necessarily think that not mentioning Hart in any way is a sign that Boo has decided to go in another direction. Avent is still the coach until the season is officially over, and the focus should be on him, deservedly so.

Plus, the state has all kinds of crazy HR rules related to hiring...I know as I worked for NC State for 23 years. All openings have to be posted, and you cannot post a job until it is officially open. I'm sure athletics can get away with a lot more than the academic units can, but they still have hoops to jump through.

Given that the season might not be over for another week or so, this announcement seems appropriate to me. Give Coach Avent the spotlight and then come in afterwards with an announcement focused on Hart...if he is the man as everyone assumes.

Yeah, I don't think they could've announced it right away even if it's Hart because of the job rules. Same reason you can't name a coach in waiting.
Wise men speak because they have something to say. Fools speak because they have to say something
