Two things can be true at the same time.

1) Avent has done wonders and deserves a lot of thanks for what he has done.
2) It's time for a new direction

Although I don't follow baseball, EA moving on would be a big change. For so long he has been the face of NC State baseball.

The program needs an overhaul for the whole coaching
Staff…it's time for new blood.

It's probably time, however Avent did more with less then he's given credit for sometimes

2 Omaha appaerance in the last 6 seasons. Would have had a great shot this year at full strength. Tons of promising freshmen on this year's team. Made a regional final last year. Just don't get why people think there's been some huge drop off the last couple years.

You hire the right person. If you feel like that person is on the current staff, great. If not that's okay too.

Do we have a clue if there really is friction between Avent and Corrigan, and if so, what does it stem from?

If a change is made you have to have a search and id that process lands on Hart great but you can't just give the job without doing the right level of due diligence. As Ethan said this is a top baseball job. Hart is a fantastic candidate but that doesn't mean you don't look at the full landscape.

Is it a top level baseball job though? I don't think we invest a whole heck of a lot into the program, I mean see how long it took to get stadium renovations started

Don't get me wrong I don't always agree with everything Avent does or doesn't do. But I am very grateful for everything he has done for the program. NC State is a top 15-20 program over the last 15 years. He built that with hardly any support and resources.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Look at what's going on at Louisville.

It's currently a top program. I don't think it's a top level job.

But I guess that depends on your definition of top level.

It's probably the 8th best job in the ACC. So I mean technically it's probably a top 25-30 job nationally. Which sounds great but this isn't college football or basketball.

It would be a shame if Hart isn't given an opportunity. He seems to run so much of the day to day already, seems like he's earned it.

Will be hard to replace EA as the face of the program and as a closer in the recruiting process, but Hart clearly is an excellent baseball coach, so I hope he gets a shot when EA is done.

I think you let Avent make the decision if he wants to coach next year. I agree that baseball does not garner the interest of the other big revenue sports at State and Avent has done an incredible job over the years in putting a team on the field that State fans should be happy to cheer for during the season. I do think there needs to be an end to Avent's career and it should be sooner rather than later and I think one to two more years would be a good target. What I would hate to see is that Avent wants to come back for another couple of years and Boo and State decide to not bring him back.

As to Hart getting the job, this has always been my expectation and I would be fine seeing him get the job. I am also okay, if State decides to go in a different direction, after Avent decides to retire.

As it stands right now, I do not believe Avent will return next year, unless something happens to change the thinking on this matter. I do hope I am wrong. I am heading toward Charlotte later today (staying an hour from Charlotte) and plan to cover the game tomorrow morning and any of the other games State plays in this year's ACC Tournament.

I hope Chris Hart gets a legit look at the position. He's poured 21 years of his life to nc state. After that I would look at Alex Sogard

Yeah that kind of loyalty deserves a shot. Especially considering the success the program has had.

Other than being a former player what about Sogard does it for you?
As I've said before, everyone wins at Wright State.

IMO, it should be Chris Hart and then let him/help him raise some money.

Dan Fitzgerald at Kansas is a stud.

Kevin Schnall at Coastal - but UScar is gonna offer him a big bag to take the job. We can't afford him and he's got better everything other than conference affiliation right now.

Cliff Godwin will of course get mentioned but the rumors (and have been for years) are that he covets the Ole Miss job.
He scares me bc he also seems reluctant to embrace the portal era fully.
And I also just don't like him. Haha

Let's not make this difficult. It's Chris Hart.

We discussed this a lot on our pod last night. EA is such a great ambassador for NC State. He is as red and white as it gets.

The results he has gotten and the talent he has recruited with our level of commitment to baseball is incredible. We just posted over the weekend how the UNC series was a record crowd for a series at a little over 9k people. Those SEC boys he is recruiting against get over 10k on some Tuesday nights.

I do think EA seems to dislike or be disinterested in raising NIL dollars. Now its a fact that he takes what he has and our staff identifies high level talent that can compete at an ACC level - but I think with EA's likeability he could raise the dollars that it takes to get to another level of recruitment and talent retention. I know several big donors that have had coaches from our school show up at their places of business over a hundred miles from campus, talk about a vision, present numbers they think they need to compete, - and I just dont get the vibe EA does that and I dont think he wants to do that. And I get it. But thats not the lay of the land now. We haven't even had a fundraiser dinner the last couple of years - didn't even do it after the last Omaha run. That almost feels like free money we leave on the table. Even if its $100k you raise - $100k goes a lot farther in baseball - it will get a SEC/ACC quality player on your campus. Part of that is due to raising money for facilities too I'm sure - but the bottom line is sometimes you can't even get a kid to come look at your facilities now days until you can give them a competitive NIL offer.

I dont have any wild aspirations we are going to outspend LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Florida State, and others in NIL dollars as a whole- but I'd like to think we can get to the point that if we can put our name in the hate for the most elite guys, and hold on to the ones we develop (i.e. White and Sosa).

NC State is a great job largely in part to EA and his heroes before him pouring so much blood, sweat, and tears into it. EA has a ton of equity in this program and he deserves to retire on his terms. And when he does, I hope he does something with the university because he could be valuable in multiple capacities. He's one of us - or maybe I should say we are one of him.

NC State is also a great job because we are in a baseball hot bed of a state, in one of the two best conferences for baseball in the country - at really the school, in one of few sports that our other in state foes dont really have a huge advantage recruiting over us. We've got superstars in MLB. All Stars, Team USA Members, Gold Glovers - it is a really really good job.

I, too, follow baseball of State at a distance of 30,000 ft overflight.
It seems every year we have a Top 12 lineup, and almost every year, injuries leave us with the wheels falling off at NC State.

From a great distance (& therefore ignorance) I wonder:

- Is the baseball program in the era that the football program was before Thunder became or S&C program.? Are they a S & C coach away from realizing their seemingly yearly potential ?
Or is it a coach whose time has passed him by?

- &/or, is the team limited by inadequate scholarships & NIL/rev share?

- &/or, is this about a lack of deep, quality depth (I remember numerous years of hearing "We have an incredibly deep bullpen," then … Disaster…)…

What's needed, given the problems? Does a 'new' coach help address our challenges ( it may, I don't know).

Thoughts for the broadest understanding of the fanbase to understand?

I heard in 2024 that Avent wanted Corrigan to name Hart as the Head Coach in Waiting. Corrigan did not agree.

Got this information from the father of an Avent employee.

As James mentioned on the pod, the Corrigan/Avent relationship is the fly in that ointment. I think Hart would be a great option and CLT listen many others who intrigue me as well. I'm a big Justin Haire guy too

My interest in winning for men's sports are football, baseball, basketball in that order. I am not speaking of terms of revenue, just in terms of the order I personally care about State winning.

Although Justin haire hasn't show it at tOSU he's be a solid hire
