NC State's Paul McNeil met with the media after the 108-72 win over Texas Southern.
All your hair is obviously wet, what's the celebration like in the locker room?
Nothing but water, water and ice, man, they were happy for me. They kept feeding me the ball and that's all I could ask for, when I hit the shots.
Are you going to have to apologize to Coach Moore and the women's team for getting water everywhere?
No, yeah, we got to clean it up though, we clean behind ourselves, so they ain't got to worry about that.
You only scored 71 in the high school game, but this was a little different.
Yeah, it kind of felt the same.
Did you feel any memories come back?
Yeah, I definitely did, it kind of felt the same, but, I was just blessed to really be in that position to do it again almost.
At what point did you realize that this was going to be one of those nights?
I had like 20, I was like, hey, that's crazy. I wasn't really thinking about it though, because you think about it, your mind gets away from the game.
So I was just telling myself I got to keep playing, I got to keep shooting, things going to go how it go.
You had an opportunity at 50 to get a triple team at the end, what was that like?
Yeah, that was crazy, that was my first time ever to really get a triple team like that, and they was telling me, yeah, you ain't about to break it, you're not about to break it.
And I was like, all right, I'm impressed about it.
Do you realize how many great players have played here and you hold this record, and how cool is that?
Yeah, there was telling me Rodney Monroe had the record before, he's a great shooter, great player, but, like I said, records are made to be broken. I feel like somebody could break mine one day, so I’m just blessed to be in this position.
Anything about playing at Reynolds that led to the breakthrough tonight?
Not really, it was just my preparation coming to the game, our fans are great, that's the main thing.
My preparation was on point, I was being calm, I was just taking all in, so it was the biggest thing.
What does it mean to be a North Carolina kid, to get to set that new record for this program?
It's kind of like it's meant to happen, being in North Carolina, you know, it comes with a lot of ups and downs. And while I'm from Richmond County, right here in North Carolina, it's hard to really bend this position.
So, like I said, I'm truly blessed to have this opportunity.
How do you take a performance like this one and carry it on? Maybe you're not having a night like this every season like, but continue to kind of build momentum.
It's just next day, next game mentality it's happening, tomorrow I got to come. The sun got to rise, so this is going to be in the past and we're moving on to Ole Miss and focus on that.
It really is just a quick memory loss, I don't know how you want to call it.
Last year, this time you were buried on the bench and now here you are a record holder. I mean, just, can you put your record head around that?
You got to just stay down to work, if you're a star, you're going to shine in any light. And, as long as you keep guiding your life, a lot can open up for you.
So, just really being patient, staying down, blocking out the outside noise, get you a lot of places.
Paul, how did you work through the past, a few games where the ball wasn't dropping for you?
Well, staying confident. Coaches are still installing confidence in me. My teammates tell me to keep shooting, it's going to come, it's going to happen.
Shooters get in slumps, and I was in a slump, but, you know, this game was just, I was hot, I was hot.
Well, what was it like to see also some of your teammates, you know, have some big games and, do some things they haven't gotten to do this season?
Yeah, that's motivation, seeing them guys do that and where they come from, I know they're truly blessed. I'm happy to see them.
So, every night I want to be in here doing an interview or having something good to talk about, because them guys care about me, I care about them.
We love each other, we all one big, one big family.
Darrion talked a lot during the offseason, kind of hyping you up as one of the more underrated players on this team and not having him tonight. Did he give you any sort of message, to go out there?
Yeah, he's telling me to be myself, like I said, he's telling me to be yourself, don't think about it, just shoot it, play your game, you only can play your game, nobody else.
So, I guess I want to say I'm going to give a big shot at D-Will for helping me be a leader.
Also, Q, Ven, and Tre also being leaders too, just telling me it's going to be okay, keep shooting and be positive.
