IPS LIVE: NC State Baseball Talk

Solid listen, going to be a lot to talk about and discuss until the opening day. As this pod said, seems like there is a lot of solid depth this year.

My questions/comments (some related to the pod, some not)
-Why is Wiggins a "no brainer" to start? I LOVE that pick up, and of course he has all the potential to be great, but he has to earn it. He has been very average at IU, and looked pretty bad in his ABs vs Wake Forest (yes, that sample size is microscopic). With Rhett Johnson leading off both games (and looking solid doing so) coupled with the Marohn comments about him, i dont see Wiggins being a no brainer.

-Is there a way to get Ryan, Sherman Johnson, and Wyatt Peifer all on the field together? Seems like it would be tough, but all 3 played well in the scrimmages and with Peifers glove, he might have a leg up. I think Nixon is 99.99% locked in a 2nd.

- Also, I am team Lanphere for the catcher spot (or DeCarlo if he deserves it). You don't put Bargo back there just to get a better bat in the lineup because the catcher position is too important defensively. Lanphere should be fine. He got on base 3-4x in the 2 scrimmages and threw out a couple guys. Is he perfect? Nope. But I truly think getting + defense back there outweighs getting another bat in the lineup

Absolutely correct about Wiggins. Johnson started both games in the lead off spot. Had multi hit games both games and a couple extra base hits.

Wiggins did not look good at all in these two games. Had 4 plate appearances and stuck out 3 times.

I think Johnson has just beaten him out to this point. Obviously things can change between now and mid February
