Curious not to see Sosa in any of those metrics posts by state. Had a lot of loud contact last year and would've thought he would've been close to the top exit velo guy on the team. Maybe it was just the sampling they took those stats from.

Good listen.

What happens with the starters will be interesting. We aren't rolling out an all lefty weekend rotation so one of the two or three will be left out in the pen. Doms stuff probably plays better in the pen but not sure he came back to do that. Either way having him, Dudan and Smith would be a deadly 7th, 8th, 9th combo you could matchup.

I am a little more hesitant on guys returning from arm injuries so if Willadsen and Van Dam can make an impact that would be great but you just never know how guys recover or how long it takes their stuff to come back.

agreed. i think there is legit 6-7 guys that can make a case for a weekend bid, which hasn't been the case in the past. So many variables as well. IF Wimbish is a kid they trust enough for late innings, does that allow Dudan to take a chance at starting (something he has stated he wants to happen). Can Jaxon Lucas be consistent enough to challenge for a spot? And the biggest x-factor is probably what to do with Fritton? Can he be freshman year Fritton? That to me is a weekend guy in the ACC. If he struggles, he can be a bullpen piece and hope that he has his good stuff.

I have this before but if Dudan had a changeup he would be a first round pick. Without that third pitch you saw guys sitting his fastball later in the year and laying off the slider. Not sure how he would translate and how much velo he would lose as a starter but it is a fun idea.

A changeup in college baseball is a cheat code. Guarantee there's a direct correlation with K rate and a good changeup.

Add in throwing it from the left side and you have a guaranteed All-Conference guy just about.

Yeah Dudan is tough on righty's with his velo and nasty slider, but he was hit some from the lefty's who were just sitting on fastballs all day once his tendencies were established. His slider was so good that even when you knew it was coming righty's couldn't hit it. But, As often as he went slider to righty's he was almost all fastballs to lefty's. That's where the changeup would make him down right unhitable.

Brian Brown is first guy I thought of when you said that. Dude might have topped out at 88 but had a filthy change.

I don't have any data to back this up and could be off but I'd bet Dudans fastball is flatter. You can get by being a starter fine in college with two pitches if you throw hard AF with a fastball with life and a plus off speed secondary pitch.

Agree on Dudan FB. It gets hit way too much at that velo to not be flat.

IIRC his fastball was 12-15 inches of vertical break which is not great and was lowest on the team which backs up your premise
