Coach, UCF came in at 21-4 with some good wins on their resume, but today you made them look beatable. How did that transpire today?
We played a good doubles point, and I think we have that right now. It was a relief to finally be on the courts after waiting three hours to play yesterday and three hours today. We told the team that UCF had a good record, and obviously, we have seen them before.
Even though their ranking is similar to last year, this team is a bit "walking wounded" at the end of the season. We knew if we could get after them, we could probably push them around, especially on our own courts. As you said, we were able to do that.
Were the conditions similar today in terms of being slower and not as bad?
Yesterday it took three hours to dry the courts, but today they dried in an hour. It felt very damp and heavy yesterday for some reason. We played a little earlier today, so it may be that the courts dried faster earlier in the day. It was still a little slow, but it was not like yesterday. Yesterday was just not good.
I do not know why the courts dried so much faster today. It did not really make sense why they dried so quickly when yesterday they did not seem to want to dry at all. We also lost a bit of cloud cover, so the ball starts to fly more once you lose that heavy air, which is good.
Courts four, three, and six finished quite quickly. When you see them coming down the hill with all that momentum, is that encouraging going into another big match?
I think we could have done better on a couple of courts regarding scoreboard watching and keeping a better attitude. It is difficult because you feel a level of inevitability on some courts. To be honest, I expected it at four and six once we got going.
It is hard to tell with Tori. She did not finish yesterday, even though it looked like she would, so I am happy she managed to get that win under her belt. We set the tone well. Other matches were moving along quickly, but they cannot all finish like they did yesterday. It takes a bit of the fun out of it when it is that one-sided, but it was good.
Do you have a message for fans since you are hosting next week, specifically regarding attendance and what it means for them to be there?
Three-hour delays on back-to-back days do not help. Today there was a baseball doubleheader, and the Hurricanes have a playoff game tonight. However, we must have as many people here as possible. I expect we will play Texas, which is a big-name brand, and will be an amazing match to have here. This will be our last home match on campus this season, as there are no more possible after this.
Hopefully, it goes both ways: we have to allow people to support us and provide them with entertainment, and we sometimes need to do a better job in that regard. It has been a while since we had a Super Regional here. We played Cal in 2022 and were ironically delayed by a thunderstorm on a very hot day. We had a good crowd then, and in 2023, we had a very large crowd against Auburn for the Super Regionals, where people came to see Diana Shnaider.
It is not often we get to have a Super Regional on campus in any sport, so hopefully, people can attend. We play at 5:00 PM on Friday, which is a little tricky, but we do not want to play later because we need the daylight. I know there are graduations and other events, but hopefully, people can find two or three hours to join us.
We are not asking for a whole afternoon. I hope the weather cooperates because the NCAA insists on us playing outdoors. They do not always take into account that the point of hosting on campus sites is to engage the local community and supporters. Otherwise, we might as well play at a championship site. Hopefully, it will be a good event and a great send-off before we head to Athens.

So, you have been really grinding late in the season. What has contributed to your rise as a player?
Solid practices, staying together as a team, and the coaches simply seeing the effort we put into everything. I think our team dynamic has helped.
How did you all settle down after a thrilling ACC Championship win and walk back in to do what you have done so far in the regional?
We were definitely happy. We had a couple of days off, and then we locked right back in because that win made us even more determined for NCAAs. We have a great opportunity ahead.
Coming off NCAA waivers and being eligible, then having a little bit of pressure behind you as far as competing for that number six spot, do you think that helped you rise to the level you have lately?
Honestly, I did not see it as competition. I was obviously happy for her because I knew that was tough for her, but I just kept training the same way. We always practice well together, so I think that helped me. I do not think I saw her as a source of pressure, but rather as a positive for the team. Maybe there was even less pressure because I knew someone else could fill the spot if anything happened.
This was the second day in a row. I remember you guys almost got that doubles point, and then again today. Is that a little frustrating when you are at 40?
I am just happy that we won the doubles point, but I would have been grateful for all three of us to finish. It is funny that it happened two days in a row. There were three match points going on at the same time, and you just feel like that is going to happen. I was really confused. I was watching the scores the whole time. Obviously, I wanted to finish, but I just wanted someone to win. We were all confused about who clinched. I still do not really know, but it was kind of funny.
