He registered for the US Open under "Victory Elite"

I think he could be one of the guys we see go into the portal. I had heard he was close to leaving last year, but a last-minute deal came down, and he stayed.

He had an interesting year. To me, watching him this year, he never really seemed All In. he was just getting it done on pure talent. The one time this year he looked fully engaged was during two of his matches at the NCAAs. After his first loss, in the two matches he looked engaged and aggressive.

It looks like he has entered the US Open, but not with the Wolfpack RTC, but with another Wrestling Club.

I am working on getting some info together about the incoming FR class and what next year might look like. Right now, VT and Stanford look very, very strong.

The three we lost today aren't unexpected, not a lot of opportunity in the lineup for those three.

Would really suck to lose any starters, as we're already falling behind VT (and Stanford to an extent).

I wouldn't be shocked to see Vince leave, but loved the way he performed at NCAAs after a tough season.
Guys I would hate to see leave are Buesgens, Denny, and Singleton.

State already has holes at 133, 141, 184, and 285.

If you can get Vince, Buesgens, Zapeda, Denny, and Singleton back, then you've got a great nucleus to build around. Sounds like that may not be happening per Redwolf's posts above.

The Stanford 174 hit the portal today too.

The one positive from the redwolf post is the o original post mentioning we have significant financial resources. I've always been curious how good those resources actually are.

This tells you that this day in age is more than just winning.

State wrestling is in real trouble unless there's a commitment to NIL/revenue share for the program.

I look at it this way. It sucks to lose him and what he brought to the lineup, but we can use his funds to help improve our depth. This is an area that we definitely got caught in last season.

There is a lot to unpack with the program moving forward. Going to be interesting to see where we are at after the transfer portal.

Use his funds to improve our depth? We just lost a national champion. What kind of depth do you want to improve?

I hate to see Vince go. It hurts to lose guys that the staff and team put so much effort into developing. I didn't see a future national champion when I saw him wrestle the first time as a true freshman. He has improved so much in his time here. I can't fault him for chasing the money. Unfortunately that's where we are in college sports. NIL and the transfer portal have taken away so much of what college sports used to be.

Where we are in college sports today makes me appreciate guys like Trumble so much. I'm sure he had options but stuck with the program that put so much effort into him.

He won a national championship, not the team. We were depleted by a big transfer, and no depth due to injuries in our middle weights. And with Fishback leaving for $$$.

If you watched him wrestle this season, he was not the same; he wanted to leave and was practically out the door last year. If he doesn't want to be here, there is the door.

VT is on a run and will be the top team in the ACC for next few years. Won the ACC this year as well.

Stanford came in and finished 6th in the country this past season.

Might want to look at the whole picture. Those are just the start. We lost another top FR this season due to transfer. A lot of work to do. This is not the same environment that we dealt with even 4 years ago when we were dominating.

I don't disagree but when you talk "depth" I don't want 3 contenders for a champion. We will have to pull rabbits from the hat it sounds like.

Read that as well. Certainly hope so, really liked watching that kid. I'd bet he's an All American as a sophomore.

I spoke to a high school wrestling coach this weekend, from Delaware, who went to Ok State. He told me that Ok State have a guy that supports college wrestling to the tune that he will pay any Oklahoma high school wrestler, that accepts a wrestling scholarship to a Oklahoma school, $250,000 per state championship and will offer it to other kids from other states based on some criteria that he determines (I guess feedback from the coaches). A kid that wins a state title, all four years in high school, starts off with $1,000,000. Ok State's recruiting class, along with what returns, makes them the big favorite (in his view) to win the national title for the foreseeable future. He said Penn State does not have a chance anymore to win it all.
