This is the 2nd doubles national championship in program history for NC State. The 1st was 3 years ago in 2022 when the doubles team of Jaeda Daniel and Nell Miller won the doubles national title.

Osuigwe is a big time recruit (#3 in class of 2025, IIRC) and true freshman who just joined the team this fall. Broadfoot and Osuigwe had played well over the past few months as a doubles team. They reached the doubles semifinals in the ITA All-American tournament in Cary back in September (one of the major national tournaments, with most of the top players nationally participating).

Really looking forward to the team competition season beginning in January. Team should be very good.

This tournament over the last week was only for the individual singles and doubles championships. There is no team component to it (not "officially"). The NCAA just recently (starting last year, 2024) changed the timing of the singles and doubles tournament, to have it take place during the fall.

The team (dual) competition season begins in January and goes through May.

Thanks for clarifying. Do you know if the team is expected to be strong this year? Go Pack!

I've been following the program fairly closely for the past 4-5 years, and IMO the team should be very strong and in contention to win the ACC and even the national title. We just set the program record for qualifying the highest number of players (four) to the NCAA singles tournament that was just held the past week, and had two doubles teams that qualified and of course one that won the national title.

I would predict they begin the team competition season ranked in the range of 8-12 in the nation. We have one key player, Michaela Laki (around top 15-20 player in D1 last season), who is still recovering from a knee injury & surgery (from last April) and with an 8-10 month recovery time may be ready to come back by January or February. If she is back at full strength (by March or April at least), then that would boost our team to a top 5 team in the nation, IMO. But even if we don't get her back, I see us as potentially a team in the 5-10 range in the nation.
