Megan Wargo-Kearney, who has spent the past five seasons as the associate head coach for the Wolfpack Volleyball program, has been promoted to head coach, Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan announced today.

Wargo-Kearney, who also has served as the Wolfpack's recruiting coordinator, came to NC State in 2020 following four seasons in a similar role at Arkansas. She helped lead the Wolfpack to just the fourth NCAA Tournament bid in school history in 2024.

"I'm very excited to watch Megan step into the role of head coach," said Corrigan. "She has been a vital part of our team's success and is an exceptional leader and recruiter. Not only does she understand our culture, she helped build it."

Wargo-Kearney served as an assistant coach for the Razorbacks for three seasons, before being promoted to associate head coach ahead of the 2019 season. Wargo-Kearney helped guide four Razorbacks to earn AVCA All-South Region Awards as well as All-SEC recognitions.

"I am so grateful to Boo Corrigan and the administration for trusting me to be our next head volleyball coach," said Wargo-Kearney. "It's been an honor to have been here with Luka since 2020 and to help build the groundwork for what I know is going to be a successful and exciting future for Wolfpack Volleyball. I love the city of Raleigh and am excited that I will be able to continue to represent our great university and to coach in Reynolds Coliseum every day."

Prior to her time at Arkansas, she spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at Truman State University where she helped guide the Bulldogs to six NCAA Tournament appearances and two conference titles. While in Kirksville, Wargo-Kearney coached three players to eight AVCA All-America accolades including Truman State's first four-time All-American and National Freshman of the Year.

Wargo-Kearney also trained 33 all-conference performers, two conference Freshman of the Year recipients, a conference Player of the Year, conference Libero of the Year and conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Truman State accumulated an overall record of 183-87 (.678) in eight seasons with Wargo-Kearney on the bench. In Great Lakes Valley Conference play, the Bulldogs posted an impressive 103-45 record for a near .700 winning percentage.

While in Kirksville, Wargo-Kearney served as Chair of the AVCA Division II Assistant Coaches' Committee and created a leadership institute within the Truman State athletic department for student-athletes.

She began her collegiate coaching career at Lees-McRae College working with the women's and men's teams. In four seasons, she helped the women's program to 100 victories and three-straight conference titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Wargo-Kearney graduated from Gettysburg College where she was a three-time all-conference performer, including Player of the Year honors as a senior. She helped lead the Bullets to three conference titles and NCAA Tournament appearances. She was also an all-conference player for the Gettysburg softball team.

Wargo-Kearney earned a Master of Arts in Leadership at Truman State in December 2012. She is married to Thomas Kearney, who has coached football collegiately and is currently a teacher and football coach at East Wake High School.
