Third-ranked NC State women's basketball (21-3, 9-3 ACC) extended its road winning streak to three games on Sunday afternoon with a dominant victory at Pitt (7-18, 1-11 ACC), beating the Panthers 83-47 on their home floor.
The Pack was led in scoring by double-figure afternoons from
Madison Hayes (16),
River Baldwin (15) and
Mimi Collins (13), with Collins shooting a perfect 6-of-6 and Baldwin going 6-of-8 from the floor.
Zoe Brooks and
Saniya Rivers both finished with eight points each.
The Wolfpack took advantage of Pitt's zone defense with a season-high 23 assists on 31 made buckets. Brooks dished out nine of those with zero turnovers, and
Aziaha James set a new career high in the category with eight of her own.
Hayes knocked down three triples, and NC State hit nine total from distance coming from six different players. The Wolfpack ended the game shooting 44.3 percent (31-of-70) as a team and was also solid defensively with Pitt's 47 points marking the fewest NC State has allowed in ACC play this year.
NC State never trailed in the contest and used a 15-0 run that spanned just over three minutes between the first and second quarters to put its lead into double figures. The Wolfpack went on to dominate the second quarter, outscoring Pitt 30-6 in the frame while shooting a blistering 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the field. The Pack led 53-20 at the break, its fourth time this season scoring at least 50 points in the opening half.
The 33-point halftime lead marked NC State's largest of the season, and Pitt never came closer than 27 in the second half. All 12 of the Pack's available players saw time and 11 scored in the 36-point Sunday afternoon win.
The Wolfpack stays on the road for a Thursday night matchup with a ranked Notre Dame squad in South Bend, Ind. Tip-off from the Purcell Pavilion is scheduled for 6 p.m. on the ACC Network.
