Wake Forest's Andrew Carr made the go-ahead basket with 17 seconds remaining as the Demon Deacons got past NC State, 83-79, Saturday evening at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

With the loss, NC State falls to 15-9, 7-6 in the ACC while Wake Forest improves to 16-7, 8-4 in the ACC.

DJ Horne scored a season-high 31 points on 13-of-21 shooting to lead the Pack. The 31 points were the most by an NC State player this season.

Horne scored 12 of NC State's final 14 points of the first half on his way to 19 points to finish with 19 in the opening half and then opened the second half by scoring five of the Pack's first eight points.

The grad guard has now scored 20 or more points in four consecutive games.

Mohamed Diarra posted a double-double with 13 points, 12 rebounds and added a career-high three assists. He had eight points, nine rebounds, three assists and one steal in the opening half.

The France native entered the game with three assists in 22 games played this season, but doubled his season total in the first 20 minutes of the game.

DJ Burns, Jr., finished with 14 points.

Despite an off-shooting night, Jayden Taylor passed out a career-high five assists and added six rebounds, two steals and one block.

The game was a nip a nip-and-tuck game that featured 15 ties and 12 lead changes. The final count was NC State with 16:19 of lead time, Wake Forest leading for 14:13 and the game was tied 9:25.

The final 7:30 minutes were all played at a margin of a single possession under Wake made two free throws with 1.7 seconds left to extend its lead to four points.

The Demon Deacons took their largest lead of the second half, 68-62, on a Hunter Sallis lay-up with 8:16 to play, but NC State immediately responded 10-2 run, taking a 72-70 lead on a Diarra three-pointer with 6:20 to go.

Andrew Carr made a three-pointer on Wake Forest's next possession to put the Demon Deacons back in front. The Pack tied the game with a Burns free throw with 4:21 to play and that started a pattern for the next four minutes where Wake Forest would score to take a two-point lead and NC State would respond on its next possession with a bucket to tie it.

The Demon Deacons held leads of 75-73, 77-75 and 79-77 but the Pack answered every Wake Forest bucket with one of its own to tie the game.

Wake Forest took an 81-79 lead on a Carr basket with 17.9 seconds to play and for the first time in the final minutes, NC State could not answer as Horne's jumper was short and Wake Forest made two free throws on the other end to close out the scoring.

The Pack went into the halftime break with a 43-39 lead after closing the opening half by making 10 of its final 12 shots.

Wake Forest had a 24-21 lead with a little less than seven minutes remaining in the period when NC State went on a 10-0 run to take a 31-24 lead.

The Pack would push the advantage to as many as 10 points, but Wake Forest closed the half on an 8-4 run to cut NC State's lead to six at intermission.

Sallis led Wake Forest with a game-high 33 points on 12-of-17 shooting. The 33 points are the most allowed by NC State this season. Carr added 15 points and seven rebounds while Cam Hildreth and Kevin Mille each added 10 points for the Demon Deacons.

NC State is not back in action until next Saturday when it plays at Clemson. Tipoff against the Tigers at Littlejohn Coliseum is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. and the game will be televised on The CW.
