Data from
https://www.ustfccca.org/records-lists/collegiate-all-time-bests?gender=2&sport=1&div=1&top=25&event=10A surprisingly slow progression of records in both of these events, IMO. Only 4 records in the mile in the last 40 years? Maybe that just makes it even more impressive.
Tuohy's efforts almost exactly mirror Jenny Barringer's 2009 season. Barringer broke the mile record (by a whopping 3 seconds) and followed it up 2 weeks later by demolishing the 3000 record (6.75 seconds). Tuohy didn't exactly shatter the mile record, but a week later she destroyed the 3000 record by 6.40 seconds.
and just for good measure:
50002/22/85 - Christine McMiken, Oklahoma State - 15:21.80 (converted)
1/26/91 - Sonia O'Sullivan, Villanova - 15:17.28
3/12/04 - Kim Smith, Providence - 15:14.18
2/28/15 - Emily Sisson, Providence - 15:12.22
Tuohy is 9th at 15:15.92. She absolutely could break the record, but I doubt they'll focus on it for the rest of this season. Championship season starts in two weeks, and the focus will be on winning championships instead of running in pro races to break records.
Kim Smith held both the 3000 and 5000 records, set on back-to-back dates 3/12/04 and 3/13/04.
No one has held the mile, 3000, and 5000 at the same time, at least since the early 80s and as far I can tell by manually going over the USTFCCCA site.
