NC State gymnastics had a gymnast selected as an EAGL award winner for the inaugural time in 2023 during week four, as Chloe Negrete was tabbed as the EAGL Specialist of the Week after her dual meet at Auburn.

The recognition marks the third time Negrete has received EAGL Specialist of the Week, as she was awarded the honor twice during her sophomore year in 2021, while additionally being named the EAGL Rookie of the Week three times during her 2020 freshman season.

Negrete's showing at Auburn included competing on vault, floor, and beam, landing a trio of podium finishes. Her night was highlighted by a 9.900 on beam which resulted in a tie for first place with multiple Auburn gymnasts including Olympic Gold Medalist Suni Lee. Her score of 9.900 on beam additionally marked her second score of 9.900 in the event dating back to the Wolfpack's tri-meet against George Washington and Pitt.

Negrete tied Emily Shepard for a third-place finish on vault at 9.850, both of which served as the Wolfpack's highest score, while her floor tally of 9.875 additionally served as NC State's highest mark in the event.

Negrete and the rest of the Wolfpack will be back in action in Reynolds Coliseum on Saturday, Feb. 4 with a tri-meet against Western Michigan and in-state rival North Carolina.

The NC State gymnastics team continued its strong start to its 2023 campaign on Saturday claiming a tri-meet win over Western Michigan and rival North Carolina with a final score of 196.275.

The evening was highlighted by four first-place event finishes including Emily Shepard's all-around mark of 39.375, while the Pack's floor tally of 49.275 marked the highest total in the event for NC State this season. The Wolfpack captured the highest score of the evening on three of four events.

Vault (49.000)
The Wolfpack opened the contest on vault with a score of 49.000 and were led by a pair of 9.850 marks from Shepard and Chloe Negrete. Alexis Ortega registered a season high in the event at 9.825, while Lauren Rutherford and Gabrielle Diaz rounded out NC State's scoring effort in the event with a 9.750 and 9.725, respectively.

Bars (48.950)
Rutherford and Shepard led the way for the Pack on bars with Rutherford tying her season-high at 9.850 and Shepard matching her total as the final two to compete in the event. The two were preceded by Ortega who registered a 9.825, while freshman Sofia Obregon's career debut resulted in a 9.725. Fellow freshman Kailee Adomaites recorded the Pack's final counting score with a 9.700

Beam (49.050)
For the fifth time in as many meets, Negrete was NC State's leader on beam with a score of 9.875. She was followed by Krista Zultevicz at 9.825 while Diaz and Shepard posted a pair of 9.800 marks, with Diaz's resulting in a season high. A 9.750 from Ortega completed the scoring effort, sending the Pack to floor with a three-event total of 147.000.

Floor (49.275)
Negrete was once again the Wolfpack's leader on floor, matching her season-high total of 9.925 which she originally hit on Jan. 14. A strong finish for the Pack saw back-to-back scores of 9.875 from Shepard and Rutherford, while a season-high score in the leadoff position from Diaz got the Wolfpack started with a 9.850. A 9.750 from Zultevicz rounded out the event, registering a new floor season-high team score for NC State.

Next Up
The Pack will now shift its focus to an EAGL quad meet at Towson alongside conference foes Pitt and Temple. The meet is set for Friday, Feb. 10 and is slated to begin at 6 p.m.

No. 23 NC State gymnastics statistically does better when taking on multiple teams as all four of its wins this season have come from tri-meets, and this time was no different. The Wolfpack posted a final score of 196.275, outpacing its season average 196.190.
The 196.275 was enough to best North Carolina's 195.975 and Western Michigan's 195.525. NC State (4-3) also redeemed itself against the Tar Heels (6-3) after losing the first matchup of the 2023 season between the two teams and took its second victory in four years in a rare meeting against the Broncos (2-3).
The Wolfpack began its night on the vault and wound up scoring a meet-best 49.000, headlined by seniors Chloe Negrete, Emily Shepard and Alexis Ortega. Negrete and Shepard both recorded scores of 9.850, and not far behind was Ortega's 9.825.

The Pack went to the uneven bars for its second rotation, an event that has been somewhat of an Achilles' heel for the red-and-white. Tonight was no different with the Pack scoring a 48.950, which was in the middle of UNC's 49.225 and Western Michigan's 48.800.
A 48.950 is by no means a low score, but the standard for greatness is high amongst the Wolfpack gymnasts. Shepard and sophomore Lauren Rutherford both scored a 9.850 to tie for the fourth-best score amongst all competitors.

NC State switched to the beam for its third event, ending with a 49.050 and four of the top five individual scores for the event. The beam has been Negrete's bread and butter all season she paced the team for the fifth time in as many meets with a 9.875. Junior Krista Zultevicz has been a source of consistency on the beam, scoring her second 9.825 in a row.
The Wolfpack likes to close out its home meets with the floor exercise, which has been one of the strongest events for NC State all season mostly due to Negrete's consistently strong performances. Negrete tied her season-high score of 9.925, contributing to a meet-high total of 49.275. Shepard and Rutherford were also key contributors on the floor. Both women scored a 9.875, a huge improvement for Rutherford after scoring an 8.675 against Auburn.
Shepard participated in all four events to boast a meet-best 39.375 on a night where the Wolfpack dominated. This is likely the sweetest victory of the season thus far NC State needed these wins to remain a ranked team after slipping a few spots due last week's loss. As an added bonus, the Pack was able to exact revenge against the rival Tar Heels from the season-opener.
NC State will travel to Maryland for its first quad-meet of the season, hosted by Towson. In addition to Towson, NC State will also compete against Pitt and Temple on Friday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m

The No. 23 NC State gymnastics team continues its 2023 campaign on Friday, Feb. 10, with its first quad meet of the season. The Pack will take on a trio of EAGL foes, with Towson playing host to NC State, Pitt, and Temple.

Coming off a tri-meet victory over North Carolina and Western Michigan with a score of 196.275, the Wolfpack have strung together four-straight scores of 196 or higher for just the fourth time in program history. Having previously met this mark in 2004, 2018, and 2021, three of these four occasions have taken place under the direction of head coach Kim Landrus.

Last week's tri-meet was highlighted by season highs from Alexis Ortega (vault) and Gabrielle Diaz (beam and floor), in addition to a season-high floor score as a team at 49.275. The Pack were led on floor by Chloe Negrete who matched her season-best mark at 9.925.

Friday will mark the first time that NC State has faced off against Towson and Temple in 2023, while the Pack met Pitt during a tri-meet in Reynolds Coliseum on Jan. 21.

Both Towson and Temple enter the evening having posted season-high scores in its most recent meets.

Towson's last time out concluded with a 196.125 in a dual-meet victory over George Washington, while Temple posted a 194.950 in a win over Yale.

Pitt enters Saturday having most recently scored a 195.775 in a quad meet at Denver alongside Air Force and George Washington, while the Panthers' season-high total came in a dual-meet win over West Virginia on Feb. 3.

Friday's contest is slated for 6 p.m. and will be held at the Towson Center in Townson, Md. The meet is set to be streamed live on Youtube.

No. 23 NC State Gymnastics competed in its first quad meet of the 2023 season on Friday evening, posting a 194.775 at Towson.

Host school Towson was crowned meet champion as the Tigers posted a season-best total of 196.425, while Temple finished the evening at 195.300 and Pitt fired off a 195.275.

NC State's night was highlighted by the Wolfpack posting a season-best team score on floor at 49.375 in addition to senior Emily Shepard claiming the all-around crown with a mark of 39.300. Shepard's all-around effort in addition to her tie for first place on vault and tie for third place on floor marked her 100th-career podium finish during her time at NC State.

Bars (47.450)
NC State started the evening on bars and were led by Shepard's tally of 9.825. The opening event saw the Pack suffer three falls, with freshman Kailee Adomaites and Peyton Childs additionally posted scores of 9.650 and 9.625, respectively.

Beam (48.850)
Chloe Negrete was the Pack's leader on beam, finishing third overall and continuing a hot start to the season for the senior. Negrete has either been NC State's leader or has matched the team's highest score on beam in every meet this season. Furthermore, Alexis Ortega matched her season-high score in the event with a 9.800, while a 9.775 from Macy Jennings and a 9.725 from Krista Zultevicz built on the Pack's scoring effort. Shepard owned the final counting score, as she filed a 9.700.

Floor (49.375)
NC State's highest team floor score of the season saw the Pack register a tie for the ninth-best score in the event in program history. Led by Negrete's second-straight score of 9.925 which landed her first overall in the event and was her third time hitting that mark this season, the Pack also saw Lauren Rutherford match her career high at 9.900. The Pack only counted scores of 9.800+ in its third rotation, with Shepard and Zultevicz each posting a 9.875 and Gabrielle Diaz leading off the event with a 9.800.

Vault (49.100)
The competition closed for the Pack on vault where Shepard led the way for NC State with her second 9.900 of the season in the event. Negrete anchored with a 9.875, with the Pack's scoring effort rounded out by a trio of 9.775 scores from Ortega, Zultevicz, and Rutherford.

No. 23 Wolfpack gymnastics had a tough outing on Friday night in Maryland in its first quad-meet of the season falling to Pitt, Temple and Towson.

The Wolfpack (4-6) accumulated three losses in one night with a season low score of 194.775 after a disastrous opening rotation. Towson (11-2) finished with a meet high 196.425, followed by a 195.300 from Temple (11-13) and a 195.275 from Pitt (9-9).

NC State was the favorite going into the meet, but all momentum was lost after the Pack had three separate gymnasts fall off of the uneven bars during their respective routines to start the night. NC State finished with a season-low 47.450 for the event, which was a deflating start for the team. Despite the poor performance, all gymnasts appeared to come away unscathed after some scary falls.

The Wolfpack continued its night on beam, recording a 48.850 the second lowest score from the second rotation. Outside of seniors Chloe Negrete and Alexis Ortega, the red-and-white didn't have any standout performances up to this point. Negrete scored a 9.850 and not far behind was Ortega with a 9.800 to pace the Pack.

NC State was dead-last halfway through the competition, tallying a total score of 96.300 with the floor routine and vault left on the schedule. The Wolfpack continued to do well with the floor exercise just as it has all season Negrete, a superstar for NC State, scored a 9.925 leading all gymnasts who competed. Sophomore Lauren Rutherford had a 9.900, the second highest score of the event, followed by Shepard and junior Krista Zultevicz both scoring a 9.875 to tie for third-best.

NC State wasn't able to complete the comeback closing out the night on vault with a 49.100. Shepard tied Towson gymnast Polina Belanovski for a meet-best score of 9.900, but outside of Negrete's 9.875 there wasn't much else to push the Pack past any of its opponents. The big three of Shepard, Negrete and Ortega gave it their best, with Shepard and Ortega being the only NC State gymnasts to compete in all four events and two-thirds of all gymnasts to qualify for an all-around score.

NC State had several outstanding individual performances that were overshadowed by a series of unfortunate events in the first half of the meet, and will look to rest and regroup after its worst statistical performance of the year thus far.

The red-and-white will return to Reynolds Coliseum Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. to face New Hampshire before taking a trip to Philadelphia to find redemption in another quad-meet.

NC State additionally swept the first-place honors in all four events, with Emily Shepard taking champion honors in vault, bars, and floor, while Chloe Negrete shared the beam crown in a tie for first.

New Hampshire's Alyssa Beaulieu was awarded all-around champion with a score of 39.150, finishing just ahead of Alexis Ortega's 39.125.

Vault (48.900)
NC State began its evening on vault where Shepard led the way for the Wolfpack with a score of 9.850. Negrete additionally posted a mark of 9.825 while the Pack's scoring effort was rounded out by a 9.725 from Krista Zultevicz and a pair of 9.750 scores from Gabrielle Diaz and Lauren Rutherford.

Bars (49.200)
NC State set a new season-high mark on bars during its second rotation with a 49.200. The previous season high came during the Wolfpack's Jan. 21 tri-meet against George Washington and Pitt, with Friday's score highlighted by Shepard matching her career high in the event at 9.900. Shepard's score additionally served as NC State's first score of 9.900+ on bars in its 2023 campaign. The event both started and ended strong for the Wolfpack, with freshman Kailee Adomaites leading off with a 9.800, and Lauren Rutherford anchoring with a 9.850. Like Shepard, Ortega also matched her career-best score with a 9.875, while a 9.775 from Peyton Childs was the Pack's final counting score.

Beam (48.650)
Negrete continued her streak of leading the way for the Pack on beam, as the senior has either posted NC State's highest score in the event in every meet this season either as the solo leader or trying for first amongst members of the Wolfpack. Ortega and Zultevicz each tallied 9.800+ marks as the duo registered a 9.825 and 9.800, respectively. Beam specialist Macy Jennings posted a 9.600, while Diaz led the Pack's third roation off with a 9.575.

Floor (49.400)
NC State's highest event total of the year came in its final rotation as the Pack posted a 49.400 on floor. All six of the Wolfpack's gymnasts competing in the event fired scores of 9.800+, with Diaz leading off at 9.850 and Negrete anchoring with a 9.900, her fifth score of 9.900+ over the course of the 2023 season. Shepard was the Wolfpack's leader as she matched career-best mark of 9.925, while Zultevicz did the same at 9.875. Next Up
A quick turnaround looms for NC State, as the Pack will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 19 for a quad meet at Temple with George Washington and Penn. Sunday's contest will be streamed on ESPN+ and is slated to begin at 6 p.m.

In its second to last home meet of the season, NC State gymnastics defeated New Hampshire 196.150-195.650. Seniors Chloe Negrete and Emily Shepard put forth the best scores of the night to lead an all-around solid outing by the Pack.
NC State (5-6) fought hard to maintain a lead over New Hampshire (9-6) through all four rotations, finally pulling away during the floor routine by posting a 49.400 team score the highest overall rotational score on the night. The Pack wavered slightly on beam and vault, but New Hampshire was unable to take advantage of those opportunities.
This meet also held some extra importance due to it being NC State's first Mental Health Awareness Meet. Each gymnast dawned a special t-shirt to spread the message of the importance of mental health.

"Even if you help just one person, I feel like you can make a difference," Shepard said. "Being a student athlete, putting your mental health first to me looks like being a person before being a student or an athlete."
The red-and-white started its night on vault, led by Shepard's 9.850 and Negrete's 9.825 the top two scores for the event. The red-and-white failed to reach the 49.000 mark here, but the 48.900 was still better than the 48.775 from New Hampshire.
The Wolfpack continued onto the uneven bars, an event that went disastrously for NC State gymnastics in last week's quad-meet. The Pack recovered in this week's outing, putting up a 49.200 thanks to a near-perfect 9.900 score from Shepard to continue to outpace the Wildcats through two rotations.

"Sometimes things don't go to plan," Negrete said. "But, that allows us to go back in the gym and fix those [things] and learn to adapt to them in the future so it doesn't happen again."
With a mere 0.525 gap between both squads halfway through the meet, first place was still very much up for grabs. New Hampshire executed well on its floor routine while NC State had its worst rotational score of the night on beam. The Wolfpack totaled 48.650 on its third rotation while New Hampshire scored 49.100, narrowing the red-and-white's lead to 0.075 with just the floor routine left to complete.
The red-and-white crushed the floor exercise, with each individual gymnast putting forth an almost-flawless routine. The lowest individual score for NC State was 9.800 and the highest was 9.925 from Shepard to contribute to a season-high 49.400.
"Our team chemistry has never been this good," Shepard said. "Everyone's willing to put in the work and grow with each other."
The strong finish resulted in the 196.150-195.650 victory for NC State, a statement win after struggling a week ago. Although this wasn't the biggest matchup on the calendar for the red-and-white, it's definitely a much-needed boost to morale as the Pack turns its attention to another quad-meet on the road.
The Pack will meet Temple, George Washington and Penn on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. in Philadelphia, and will stay on the road for an additional tri-meet before returning to Raleigh for its final home meet on Saturday, March. 4.
