Men finish in 5th. Decent race. Wake with the dominating win (4 in the top 10), but a pretty tight race in the team standings from 2nd through 6th.

Really interested to see how the boys do next week adjusting to 10k. Gardner faded hard today but I think he'll be fine if he goes out a little more reserved. Shanklin, snider and particularly burger were all getting stronger the last 2k it seemed which bodes well

No. 1 NC State women's cross country captured its 28th ACC Championship on Friday, Oct. 28, extending the program's current streak to seven in a row. Four Wolfpack athletes finished in the top 10 to push the team past Notre Dame and take the title.

Junior Katelyn Tuohy finished first in the 6k run at 19:08.9, followed by senior Kelsey Chmiel, who finished second at 19:20.0. Senior Samantha Bush finished fifth for the Pack at 19:45.7 and was followed by sophomore Brooke Rauber in 10th place. Finally, junior Gionna Quarzo finished in 16th, rounding out the team scoring for the Pack.

Chmiel and Tuohy switched finishes from last year's conference championship, when Chmiel took first at 20:02.7 and Tuohy second at 20:09.9. The improvement of more than a minute by Tuohy shows the vast improvement she has made and dominance she possesses in the sport, while Chmiel's improvement allowed the Pack to edge out Notre Dame.

NC State ended with 34 points, most closely contested by Notre Dame's 38. Virginia came in third place with 98 points, considerably far from the top two teams. NC State will likely keep its No. 1 rank in the country after this ACC Championship win and will add on to the dynasty it has developed in the past seven years. The Pack has not dropped its No. 1 rank all season long.

Graduate Nevada Mareno finished 19th and fellow graduate Sydney Seymour finished in 29th. Redshirt senior Mariah Howlett finished 34th, followed by junior Alyssa Hendrix in 65th. Finally, redshirt junior Shannon Sefton finished 80th out of the 128 total runners..

The No. 12 NC State men's squad finished fifth in the 8k race. Graduate student Ian Shanklin led the Pack in sixth place with a time of 23:12.7. Graduate Robinson Snider followed Shanklin in 14th place with a 23:20.1 stamp. Graduate Hannes Burger finished 18th on the day, and junior Ian Harrison finished 32nd with a 23:38.1 mark. To round out the team scoring, junior Brett Gardner finished 49th.

Juniors Jake Toomey, JJ Malach and Travis Koekemoer, and sophomore Matt Bogdan finished in 69th, 80th, 88th, and 98th, respectively.

The men's team finished with 118 points, beating out Virginia by seven and trailing Notre Dame by 92.

Both the NC State men's and women's teams will compete in the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Veterans Day, Nov. 11 in Louisville, Kentucky.

The NC State women's cross country team edged out Notre Dame to capture the 2022 ACC title.

The Wolfpack (34) finished four points ahead of the Irish (38).

NC State's Katelyn Tuohy and Kelsey Chmiel finished first and second to help the Pack earn a seventh straight ACC cross country title. NC State, the No. 1 team in the country, won its eighth overall title under head coach Laurie Henes.

NC State had four runners in the top 10 and six in the top 20.

Tuophy's time of 19:08.9 in the 6K was a new course record. Chmiel, who won it all last season, came in at 19:20. Samantha Bush was fifth at 19:45.7. Freshman Brooke Rauber (19:58.5) rounded out the Pack runners in the top 10.

Gionna Quarzo (16th), Nevada Mareno (19th) rounded out the top 10 for NC State. Tuohy, Chmiel, Bush, Rauber, Quarzo and Mareno each earned All-ACC honors.

In the men's race, the Wolfpack tallied 118 points for a fifth-place finish. Ian Shanklin placed sixth overall with a time of 23:12.7. Robinson Snider came in 14th with a time of 23:20.1 and Hannes Burger (23:23.7) was 19th. The trio was named to the All-ACC team.

Up next: The Wolfpack will prepare for the NCAA regionals November 11 in Louisville, KY.

this was pre-conference meet, so maybe they'd switch State and UNC in their projections, but The Stride Report projections have us fairly safely getting to the NCAA championships as long as we dont implode at regionals. 3rd would be an acceptable result though id like to see us get 2nd. Shouldnt be losing to UVA or Charlotte.

latest polls are out, NC State men sit #15 in the country and #3 in the Southeast Region. The result at Nuttycombe should be good enough to get them in the field if they dont finish top 2 in the region, but would rather see them run well enough and get some confidence back by getting 2nd. Particularly Gardner.

The Stride Report released the most recent Kolas Projections, which is the at-large selection process for the NCAA Championships field for those who dont auto-qualify for the meet by finishing top 2 in their region. They have NC State men not auto qualifying and finishing 3rd in the region. However based on the teams they do project to auto qualify, they have NC State with the 3rd most points of those remaining teams looking to get in. This is based on the great result at Nuttycombe where they beat Portland, Syracuse, UNC, and Harvard who are all projected to auto qualify from their respective regions. 4 points would be a lock if those projections hold and 3 would probably also be a lock if we finish 3rd in the region.

But lets just make it easy and get 2nd in the region...

Much like Seymour on the women's side, this was a huge bounce back performance from Brett Gardner after a poor showing at the conference meet. Thought they adjusted to the longer distance well, particularly Gardner who i normally associated with steeplechase on the track.

Men didn't auto qualify, but should have enough points to make it to nationals. This is a pretty encouraging results all things considered, men could be poised for a really solid result at nationals.

I don't get too deep in the weeds concerning at-large points, but I think having UVA sneak into an auto-qualifying spot really helps us. WFU has plenty of at-large points and will get in really quick. If UVA was in front of us, we might have had to wait longer on the bubble to get in.

Pretty decent race for the men. Hate seeing UNC win it, but at least no one cares about regionals.

UVA qualifying did help since we beat them at ACC's. Think we've got 5 points already beat UNC, Syracuse, Harvard and Georgetown at Nuttycombe and UVA at ACC's. 5 points should make us at worst the 4th or so at large to get in barring some crazy upsets but we are 99.999% safe. Still potential to get more points if Oregon or someone like that can cause an upset at one of the 2 regionals left.

we're projected to be the 4th at large into the field. Could be primed for our best men's nationals finish since they got 11th in 2018.

On the men's side, the Pack finished fourth overall with 96 points.

Senior Ian Shanklin was the first NC State runner to cross the finish line, finishing 7th with a time of 29:59.6.

Brett Gardner finished 12th (30:03.7) and Robinson Snider (30:11.2) finished 18th. The trio of Shanklin, Gardner and Snider were all named to the USTFCCCA All-Region team. Ian Harrison (26th, 30:15.7) and Hannes Burger (33rd, 30:25.5) rounded out the scoring for the Wolfpack.

The NC State men will now wait and see if they earned an at-larger bid to the NCAA nationals. The NCAA field will be announced on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Looking to the future of the program here during this week break leading up to the NCAA championships. NC state signed 2 men in this signing period for the 2023 class that will be geared towards distance track/xc.

First is Elliott McArthur, from Minnesota. He has PR's of 1:56 in the 800m, 4:11.88 in the mile, 9:16.16 in the 3200m, and a 14:56.85 5000m. Talented across a range of distances, he has the potential to be a definite asset for the men's program moving forwards.

2nd is Krister Sjoblad, a local kid from Athens Drive High School. He has PR's of 1:58.20 800m, 4:27.50 mile, 9:19.33 3200m, and 15:07 in the 5000m.

cool thing about the mens program is 5 of the top 7 runners today are NC products. Ian Shanklin from Page High in Greensboro, Ian Harrison from Panther Creek High in Cary, Robinson Snider from Hoggard High in Wilmington, Jake Toomey from Weddington High in Matthews and JJ Malach from Broughton in Raleigh.

11th place in the country with such local recruiting is really cool to see.

preview of how the team is looking next year coming off a great 11th place finish.

Ian Shanklin - has run 5 seasons of XC. Is out of eligibility. Great career for him.

Brett Gardner - has run 3 seasons of XC. Has 1 more year + a covid year if he wants it. 2022 has been an absurd improvement from him, starting with dropping his 3k steeplechase down to 8:37 at ACC's last spring, then improving from a barely sub 25 6k runner his first 2 seasons to a guy that ran sub 30 for 10k and was disappointed with 23:58 at ACC's. Really excited to watch him in track.

Hannes Burger - Has run 4 seasons of XC so he has a covid year left. But he's already listed as a grad student on GoPack so unsure if he has any school scheduled for next year of he would need to pursue another degree in order to run again. Really came on strong at the end of this year.

Ian Harrison - Similar to Gardner he's really been coming on strong in 2022. He improved his track 5k to a 13:57 this spring, improved his best 8k by about a minute this fall, and improved his XC 10 from a 32:01 last XC season at regionals to a 30:24 on the track this past spring, then to a 30:02 on a hilly grass course today. Excited to see where he goes.

Robinson Snider - has run 5 seasons of XC i believe. Is out of eligibility. Really solid scorer for us after transferring in.

Jake Toomey - has run 3 seasons of XC. has 1 more year plus a covid year. Improved on his best 8k prior to this year by over a minute (25:28 to 24:23). His range is incredible to me. This is a guy that doesn't run anything longer than the 1500 on the track, is a 1:50 800m runner, and has even run in some 4x400 meter races. To be this solid at 10k is very impressive.

John Malach - Has run 3 seasons of XC has 1 more year plus a covid year. Has shown small improvements year to year but not much just yet. Improved at the Adidas challenge from a 18:22 in 2021 to a 17:49 in 2022.

5 runners to potentially fill the 2-3 gaps in the roster next season:

David Vorbach - similar situation to Hannes Burger. Has run 4 seasons of XC so he still has his covid year left after transferring in this year. But he's already listed as a grad student so may also depend on the school situation. Has run a 13:47 5k on the track and 29:38 10k on the track so the talent is there. Ran a 24:08 5 miler at Joe piane this year.

Dan McGoey - Has run 3 seasons of XC so has 1 more year plus a covid year. Has shown steady improvements year to year so far. From a 25:41 8k 2 years ago to a 24:10 now. Ran a 14:03 5k on the track this past spring.

Travis Koekemoer - This was his first xc season per any results i can find, but he's listed as jr on GoPack. So unkown how many years he might have left, but seems he definitely has eligibility for next season at least. He's more of a mile/3k guy on the track similar to Gardner, has run an 8:50 3k steeplechase on the track and was under 25:00 in the 3 8k's he raced this season.

Kevin Antczak - Has run 2 seasons of XC, so has 2 years remaining plus a covid year. Battled injuries in college, but has definite talent. Was highly recruited out of high school, and ran a 23:59 8k at ACC's in 2020 so scoring potential is definitely there. Feels like he just needs to get a consistent training stretch in with no injuries to hopefully put it together.

Miles Ally - This was his 1st season of XC, has 3 years remaining. Ran a promising 18:05 6k to start the year at the adidas challenge, running with Jake Toomey who was our 6th runner today, and beating a guy like Dan Mcgoey who was top 7 for us a few times this season.

Also keep an eye on a guy like Zach Hughes, who has 2 years remaining, who is a bit like Jake Toomey in his mid distance track profile. Also a 1:50 800 m runner, and ran a very solid 31:03 10k at regionals last year scoring as our 5th runner and beating Ian Harrison by a minute who was a consistent top 4 guy for us this season.
