COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Diamond Johnson of the NC State women's basketball team has accepted an invitation to attend the upcoming trials for the 2021 USA Basketball Women's U19 World Cup Team.

Johnson is one of 27 players from across the nation to participate in the trials, which will take place May 14-16 on the campus of Metro State University in Denver. Out of the group, 12 players will be selected to represent Team USA in the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup, held August 7-15 in Debrecen, Hungary.

Johnson is a rising sophomore who recently transferred into the NC State program after spending her freshman campaign at Rutgers. The guard earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team and the Second Team All-Big Ten following her impressive rookie season. In 2020-21, Johnson averaged 17.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

A native of Philadelphia, Pa., she scored in double figures in 17 games last season, with seven of those outings marking 20+ point performances. She ranked seventh in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage (.455). Johnson was the No. 6 player in her class coming out of high school, where she was a two-time Gatorade Pennsylvania Girls Basketball Player of the Year and a Philadelphians All-American.
