Wolfpack Senior Hannah Steelman has been honored as the 2020 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. NC State has earned the honor for two consecutive seasons as graduated senior Elly Henes was Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2019.

Eleven members of the NC State cross country teams, including Steelman, have been named to the All-ACC Academic Team. Five members of the men's squad and six members of the women's team have garnered the honor.

Steelman has received much recognition for her performances during the cross country season. The Orono, Maine, native garnered ACC Cross Country Athlete of the Year honors in addition to USTFCCCA Southeast Region Performer of the Year laurels. She placed third at the 2020 ACC Championship and posted a blistering fifth-place finish at the 2020 NCAA Championship, earning All-America honors.

Chmiel, Clairmonte, Holt, Howlett and Steelman were scorers for the squad in its 2020 ACC Championship victory, including three top-10 finishes, while Chmiel, Steelman and Tuohy each garnered All-American status with their top-40 finishes at the 2020 NCAA Cross Country Championship. As a team, the Wolfpack took second place for its highest finish since 2001 while Chmiel and Steelman finished in the top 10 at the meet, placing ninth and fifth, respectively.

Chmiel and Clairmonte tabs the laurels for the second time in their careers while Holt, Howlett, Steelman and Tuohy each garner the honors for the first time.

2021 All-ACC Men's Cross Country Academic Team

Kevin Antczak, Fr. - Management
Joe Bistritz, Sr. - English

Gavin Gaynor, Gr. - Chemical Engineering
Ian Shanklin, Sr. - Business Administration
The five men's squad selections are NC State's most since the 2017-18 season in which the Wolfpack also had five men named to the team.

All of the men's team honorees competed well for NC State in postseason action. Shanklin, Bistritz, Gaynor, and Burger each garnered All-ACC status with finishes in the top 17 of the ACC Cross Country Championship race. Antczak finished in the top 40 at the race, the highest freshman finisher for the Wolfpack. NC State posted a top-25 team finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championship, coming in at 23rd. The team tabbed an impressive ACC finish as well, coming in second.

Gaynor's honor is the third of his career, and Shanklin tabs the laurels for the second time. Antczak, Bistritz and Burger's honors are their first.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll recognizes all league student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 is set to be released in July.
