NC State concludes its scheduled non-conference play with a midweek doubleheader against Furman, April 21 at 1 p.m. The doubleheader will be featured on ACCNX.

Attendance at NC State softball events remains limited to player and staff guests only.

A LOOK AT FURMAN
A young Furman (13-20) team enters the week looking to extend its three-game win streak that saw the Paladins sweep conference opponent ETSU last weekend. 14 of Furman's 21 players on its roster are underclassmen, with a true freshman, Siera Tufts, leading the team in the pitching circle.

Tufts has a team-best 3.69 ERA with a bulk amount of the team's innings, 85.1, and the most strikeouts (36), she also leads the team with six wins.

On the offensive side of the ball, Emily Bartlett leads Furman with a .343 batting average while Mackense Greico has a team-high seven home runs. Furman ranks second in the SoCon with 0.88 home runs per game and 29 on the season.

Tatyana Forbes joined elite company Friday evening, as the redshirt senior became one of just four active Division 1 players to eclips 300 career hits. Forbes recorded her 300th career hit in the second inning of game one of Friday's double header against #16.

Despite battling back in the second game to tie the score going into the seventh, NC State was unable to take the lead over Clemson as the Tigers won both games of Friday's doubleheader by scores of 9-3 and 4-3. The series is scheduled to continue tomorrow, April 24, at 5 p.m. on ACCNX.

Randi Farricker led the Wolfpack, going 3-for-3 in the final game of the doubleheader with a home run and two RBI. Forbes was also perfect in the second game, going 3-for-5 on the day.

Estelle Czech started the first game, going 3.1 innings before being relieved by Sydney Nester. Czech (3-3) allowed eight runs (four earned) on five hits with a strikeout. Abby Trahan started game two, before also being relieved by Nester. Nester (7-7), despite being charged with the loss, pitched lights out in both appearances. She pitched a total of 7.0 innings between the two games, allowing two runs on three hits.

GAME 1 RECAP
Clemson came out early with two solo home runs in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. NC State would quickly cut the deficit in half scoring a run in the third on a pair of Clemson miscues. The Tigers pushed out to a 5-1 lead with four runs in the bottom half of the frame that included two miscues on the NC State side.

After NC State scored an additional run, Clemson kept its lead strong pushing it out to 9-2 through five innings. The highlight of the game for NC State came in the sixth inning on a solo home run by April Visser. The home run only the fourth allowed by Clemson pitcher Valerie Cagle all season.

GAME 2 RECAP
After Clemson scored all its runs in the first two innings, Nester shut down the Clemson batting order as NC State mounted a comeback. All of the Wolfpack's runs were scored in the fourth inning. Logan Morris led off the frame with a walk before Randi Farricker launched her 16th home run of the season to left center field. The hitting continued with a single by Forbes and an RBI double by Brigette Nordberg that tied the game.

NC State threatened in both the sixth and seventh innings, putting four runners into scoring position but were unable to bring across a go-ahead run. After recording an out against the lead off Clemson hitter, NC State intentionally walked Cagle before Marissa Guimbarda recorded the final RBI to win the game.

NC State's three runs in both games are the second most Clemson has given up all season.

The NC State softball team took a ranked opponent down to the wire for the fourth-consecutive game, dropping a close 2-1 contest to #6 Florida State Friday evening in Tallahassee.

In a pitching dominant game, NC State was led offensively by Sam Russ who went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base.

Abby Trahan pitched the complete game for NC State, going 6.2 innings where she allowed the two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

GAME RECAP
Trahan forced Florida State to leave three base runners on through the first three innings before NC State was left stranded themselves. Russ led off the fourth inning with a double to center field before a walk and fielders' choice allowed NC State to load the bases. However, back-to-back outs did not allow the Wolfpack to score the first run.

The Seminoles struck first in the bottom of the fourth taking a 1-0 lead on a solo home run. After a scoreless fifth inning, NC State tied the ball game in the sixth. Russ led off the inning for her second-straight at bat with a hit. After stealing her 100th career stolen base, she advanced to third on a Florida State error. A walk to Logan Morris extended the inning and set up a sac fly by Randi Farricker.

Sack recorded her hit with two outs in the top of the seventh, however, Florida State was able to score the game-winning run on a close play at first in the bottom of the inning.

OF NOTE
  • 13 of NC State's 18 losses this season have been by two or less runs, including six of those against ranked opponents.
  • Russ becomes the first NC State softball player to reach 100 career stolen bases. She is 10 away from entering the top-10 all-time mark in the ACC.
  • Russ joins Trea Turner as the only baseball or softball player at NC State to surpass the century mark in stolen bases.

UP NEXT
NC State will continue the four-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow, May 1 beginning at 1 p.m. on ACCNX.

After dropping four of its last five games against ranked opponents by less than two runs, the NC State softball team bounced back in a huge way for its second-highest ranked win in program history. The Wolfpack took a 5-2 victory against #6 Florida State for its first win against the Seminoles in Tallahassee since winning the 2013 ACC Championship.

Abby Trahan pitched the complete game for NC State, picking up her third win in the circle against a ranked opponent this season. Trahan (12-7) allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

Sam Russ was unstoppable after moving back into the leadoff spot in the batting order. Russ went 3-for-4, including her first triple of the season and a stolen base. Tatyana Forbes and Randi Farricker also had multi-base hit games, each adding two.

After dropping the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 6-1, NC State wasted little time in game two with three-consecutive hits to lead off the game. Forbes followed a lead-off triple by Russ to score the first run of the game before a single by Farricker and Florida State error loaded the bases. Logan Morris then executed a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 NC State lead.

Trahan made quick work of the Seminoles through the first two innings, retiring the first six batters she faced in order. Florida State's first hit came in the third inning with a lead off single before then stringing together a pair of doubles to tie the game, 2-2. Rizzi executed a double play in the outfield to limit the damage.

NC State's offense quickly answered back with some strong two-out hitting for a 4-2 lead in the fourth. After Carson Shaner and Haley Haislip were retired to lead off the inning, Russ and Forbes shifted the momentum with back-to-back singles before Farricker recorded her 10th double of the season down the left field line. Farricker's double brought both runner's in and gave NC State back the lead.

Defensively, Trahan kept Florida State's offense in check allowing just one additional hit across the next two innings. Rizzi added some insurance runs for the Wolfpack with a solo home run in the top of the fifth before Trahan retired the final three batters.

OF NOTE
  • NC State's three ranked wins this season are the most since 2015, where the Wolfpack advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals.
  • The win ties the second-highest ranked win in program history, and the highest since March 18, 2007 against #2 Arizona State.
  • With her sac fly in the first inning of the second game, Morris now owns NC State's single-season sacrifice fly record with four. Morris also holds the career number of nine.
  • The win marked the first against the Seminoles since April 4, 2015 and the 12th win all-time.
  • NC State now has 66 home runs on the season, tying for the fifth-best in program history.
