BOSTON, Mass. At the Boston Season Opener, Kelsey Chmiel kicked off her collegiate track & field career with a top-five women's 5k time in school history. The freshman notched a time of 16:02.06, outrunning the ACC qualifying time by over 45 seconds.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. At the JDL Kick-Off Classic, NC State collected a title and two other podium finishes on Saturday. Tyson Fortenberry won the men's weight throw competition, and he placed second in men's shot put. Jersey Harris earned a second-place finish in the women's weight throw.

Sprints: Sophomore Timara Chapman clocked in at 8.89 in the 60m hurdles prelims, a top-10 program mark, and advanced to the finals.

Throws: Tyson Fortenberry was crowned the JDL Kick-Off Classic men's weight throw champion after a 59'2.75" (18.05m) performance. He also took home second-place honors and posted an ACC qualifying mark with a top-10 throw in school history (53'9", 16.38m) in men's shot put.

Jaylen Spellman made his indoor season weight throw debut with a 45'1" (13.74m) mark.

On the women's side, Harris and Kayla Beasley earned a pair of top-10 finishes in women's weight throw. Harris posted a 55'7.50" (16.95m) throw that registered in second place, and Beasley threw for 47'5.25" (14.46m).

Jumps: Chapman set a new high jump personal-best in her season debut, recording a 5'5" (1.65m) mark.

Pack Captures Two Titles at Gamecock Opener Saturday
Story LinksCOLUMBIA, S.C. The NC State track and field team claimed two event titles and earned seven podium finishes on the second day at the Gamecock Opener.

Chris Alexander took home first-place honors in the men's long jump invite, while Michelle Cobb posted the top mark in the women's triple jump invite while setting a new PR.

Jumps: Alexander captured the men's long jump invite title with a 25'2.5" (7.68m) mark that exceeded the ACC qualifying standards and ranks in the top five in program history. Teammates Von Douglas (24'2.25") and Jamar Davis (23'11") also joined Alexander in out-jumping the conference qualifying standard.

Alexander and Davis both followed up long jump with solid triple jump performances. Davis took second-place honors with a 50'3.5" (15.33m) mark that ranks 10th in the NC State record books, while Alexander took third-place honors with a 49'7.25" (15.12m) mark.

Cobb continued the strong day in jumps for NC State as she set a new PR (42'11", 13.08m) on her way to the women's triple jump invite title. That mark ranks third in school history.

Timara Chapman took home third place in the women's high jump invite, recording a jump of 5'7" (1.70m).

Throws: With a 59'9" (18.21m) mark, Fortenberry claimed gold-medal honors in men's weight throw invite competition and heavily outthrew the conference qualifying standard (17.84m). Fortenberry concluded his day with a third-place finish in the men's shot put invite, throwing for 54'8" (16.66m), which is a top-10 mark in NC State history to surpass his second qualifying standard of the day.

GAMECOCK OPENER FIELD RESULTS, DAY 1
COLUMBIA, S.C. Senior Cravont Charleston ran the 60m dash final in 6.59 at the Gamecock Opener on Friday, posting the fastest current time in the nation and this second-fastest in school history behind his own 6.54 mark. His event title marked the fourth of the day for the Pack.

Kayla Beasley threw her way to the women's shot put and weight throw titles, and teammate Anna Vess captured gold-medal honors in the women's mile.

Sprints: Mikieja Covington ran a personal-best 8.72 in the women's 60m hurdles trials, which qualified her for the semifinals. Teammate Ally Henson also qualified for the semifinals with a time of 8.83. Over the course of the day, three Pack members posted top-10 school marks in the 60m hurdles: Covington (8.72), Henson (8.83) and Alexis Postell (8.85)

McKenzie Long' 7.57 mark in the women's 60m semifinals tied for the 10th-best time in program history.

In the men's 60m semifinal, Charleston posted the fastest overall time (6.68) and outran the ACC qualifying standard (6.85).

Joshua Brockman's 8.29 in the men's 60m hurdles ranks seventh in school history.

Distance: The Wolfpack completed a sweep of the podium in the women's mile, as Vess clocked in at 4:54.06 for first place, and Savannah Shaw (4:55.06) and Sarah LaTour (4:55.30) finished in second and third place respectively.

In the men's mile, three Pack runners earned top-10 finishes: Kyle Durham, Ben Verchick and Peyton Barish. Durham finished third overall in 4:17.65.

Throws: Beasley captured the women's weight throw title with a 53'0" (16.15m) mark, and the shot put title with a 44'3.50" (13.50m) mark.

Jumps: Michelle Cobb and Covington jumped their way to top-10 finishes in long jump with 18'3.75" (5.58m) and 17'11.75" (5.48m) marks respectively. Cobb out-jumped the ACC qualifying standard (5.81m) on the way to a new PR.

Philip Hall set a new school record in the men's 1000m race at the Hokie Invitational on Friday inside Rector Field House. His 2:25.08 mark surpassed Brendan Rodgers' (2:25.83) set in 1998. Additionally, NC State collected three event titles (Michelle Cobb triple jump, Jamar Davis triple jump, Savannah Shaw mile).

Jumps: NC State swept triple jump competition thanks to Cobb (43'5.75", 13.25m) and Davis (51'5", 15.67m). Both marks rank in the top-10 in school history, and Cobb's new personal-best jump ranks second in the school record books, third in the nation and first in the ACC.

Distance: Hall (2:25.08) finished fourth in the 1000m on his way to setting the school record.

In the mile, four women posted top-10 finishes: Shaw (4:42.12), Kelsey Chmiel (4:46.47), Sarah LaTour (4:54.05) and Sam Bush (4:59.70). Shaw's personal-best time ranks eighth in program history, and surpasses the ACC qualifying standard, as did Chmiel's time.

Sprints: Joshua Brockman qualified for the men's 60m hurdles final and posted an impressive top-three time in school history (8.10) on his way to a fourth-place finish in the final. Brockman's time is also faster than the ACC's 8.12 qualifying standard.

Throws: Tyson Fortenberry set a new PR in men's weight throw as he recorded a 61'11.75" (18.89m) mark.

Kayla Beasley outthrew her previous personal-best mark and posted a 55'2.25" (16.82m) in women's weight throw.

Cravont Charleston clocked in at 21.40 in the men's 200m dash to take first place at the Hokie Invitational on Saturday.

In addition, the Pack set five new personal-best marks on the day.

Jumps: Mikieja Covington set a new PR in the women's high jump with a 5'52.5" (1.58m).

Sprints: Alexis Patterson needed only 24.84 in the women's 200m dash, and Nia Judkins' 25.45 and Alexis Postell's 25.80 were personal-bests.

Behind Charleston in the 200m, Junpai Dowdy set a new PR (21.92) behind teammate Henry Young (21.76).

Throws: Kayla Beasley recorded a 43'1.75" (13.15m) in the women's shot put and moved into the NC State top 10 in the category, and Mikieja Covington's 36'3.5" (11.06m) mark set a new PR.

Tyson Fortenberry's 54'1" (16.48m) throw in men's shot put ranks in the top 10 in the NC State record books.

The NC State track and field team completed its second day of competition at the Texas Tech Invitational on Friday. Michelle Cobb posted a top-five mark (43'7.75", 13.30m) nationally in the women's triple jump to highlight the Pack's performance, and Cravont Charleston ran his way to third-place honors in the men's 60m dash final with the third-fastest time in program history (6.62).

Sprints: Cameron Murray made his 60m hurdles season debut in fast fashion. The sophomore finished the prelims with a 7.99 clip, which qualified him for the semifinals. Murray also outran the ACC qualifying standard (8.12) with his prelim performance.

He then bested his 7.99 mark with a 7.94, the third-fastest time in program history, in the semifinals that was fast enough to earn Murray a spot in the 60m hurdles finals where he posted an 8.01.

Charleston continued the strong showing in the 60m dash. The senior clocked in at 6.66 in the semifinals to advance to the finals. In the final event of the night, Charleston crossed the finish line in 6.62 for a third-place finish and the third-fastest time in program history.

Jumps: Cobb continued to jump her way up the NC State record books on Friday. Her 43'7.75' (13.30m) mark set a new PR and currently sits as fifth-best nationally. The jump ranks second in program history.

On the men's side, Jamar Davis recorded a top-10 jump in NC State history (50'5.5", 15.38m).

The NC State track and field team opened competition at the Camel City Invitational on Friday at the JDL Fast Track.

The women's distance runners impressed on Friday as the Pack had three top-10 finishes in the women's 3000m, including first and third-place finishes by Dominique Clairmonte and Anna Vess, respectively.

Sprints: Ally Henson qualified for the women's 60m hurdles finals with a third-place finish in the prelims and an 8.78 mark. That time ranks eighth in program history. In the finals, she set a new PR, crossing the finish line in 8.62 for second place.

The men were also represented in the 60m hurdles finals thanks to a second-place prelim finish. Cameron Murray clocked in at 8.05 to advance to the finals, which is the fourth-fastest time in the NC State record books. He notched an 8.09 in the finals to finish in fourth place.

Throws: Tyson Fortenberry took home fourth-place honors in men's weight throw competition with a 61'7.75" (18.79m) throw, which is a top-10 NC State mark.

The NC State track and field team closed out competition at the Camel City Invitational on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track. The squad earned a podium finish and set two PRs.

Distance: Kelsey Chmiel clocked in at 9:18.23 in the women's 3000m race, posting the fourth-fastest time among collegiate runners at the meet. The freshman's time currently sits in the top 15 nationally. Chmiel also outran the ACC qualifying standard by over 12 seconds.

Sprints: In the women's 60m dash prelims, Kylia Wright (7.64) and Aasiyah Barr (7.76) both set new PRs, and Wright advanced to the 60m dash finals after posting the third-fastest time in the prelims.

In the finals, Wright tied her PR (7.64) she set in the prelims to claim second-place honors in the 60m finals.

Pack Jumpers Open Competition at Don Kirby Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The NC State track and field team was represented in long jump on Thursday to open the Don Kirby Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

On the men's side, Von Douglas and Jamar Davis posted top-nine marks in the opening three attempts to move onto the final. Douglas earned fourth-place honors with a 24'4.25" (7.42m) jump. Davis trailed close behind, jumping for 23'10.75", good for sixth place.

Jirah Sidberry earned a top-25 finish in a field of over 50 athletes. The freshman recorded an 18'5.25" (5.62m) jump on her first attempt.

The NC State track and field team was in action at three meets on Friday. The distance runners, sprinters, jumpers and throwers competed at the Tiger Paw Invite, Valentine Invitational and Don Kirby Invitational. Among the three, NC State tallied nine combined ACC Indoor Championship qualifying standards and nine personal-best marks.

Distance: Nevada Mareno led the Pack women at the Valentine Invitational in the mile race with a 4:42.14 clip, setting a new personal-best. Dominique Clairmonte (4:43.41) followed close behind, also earning an ACC qualifying mark.

Sarah LaTour (4:53.77), Anna Vess (4:58.07) and Sam Bush (4:59.13) rounded out the event for NC State. LaTour's and Bush's times were PRs.

In the women's 3000m, Kelsey Chmiel (9:10.74) and Savannah Shaw (9:17.52) clocked in with top-10 times in NC State history and earned top-20 finishes overall with their marks that outran conference qualifying standards. Chmiel bested her PR in the race.

Sprints: At the Tiger Paw Invite, Cameron Murray (8.01) and Josh Brockman (8.07) both placed themselves in the 60m hurdles semifinals with marks that outpaced the ACC qualifying standard of 8.12. Murray's time registered as a new PR, and both ranked among the top five times in the NC State record books.

In the semifinal, Murray clocked in a 7.96 for 12th place, and Brockman clocked in at 8.15.

Junpai Dowdy crossed the finish line in the 60m prelims with a new PR of his own (6.95).

Jumps: Michelle Cobb notched a fourth-place finish in a field of 45 athletes in women's triple jump competition at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational. Her 43'4.5" (13.22m) jump ranks third in program history and is a meter farther than the conference qualifying standard.

The success continued on the men's side as Chris Alexander (50'9.5", 15.48m) and Jamar Davis (50'6.25", 15.40m) earned third and fourth-place finishes respectively. Alexander's performance was a personal best, and both jumps exceed ACC qualifying standards.

Throws: Tyson Fortenberry outthrew the conference qualifying standard with an 18.34m mark in men's weight throw.

The NC State track and field team concluded action at the Valentine Invitational and Tiger Paw Invite on Saturday. Tim Bason set a new program record in the men's 1000m at the Valentine Invitational, crossing the finish line in 2:24.71. His mark outran Philip Hall's 2:25.08 set earlier this season.

Distance: Bason was the first collegiate runner to cross the finish line in the 1000m and placed fifth overall. Ares Epps (2:25.62) and Kyle Durham (2:26.42) also placed in the top 15 in a field of over 100 runners.

Hall (8:07.95) and Joe Bistritz (8:12.29) posted ACC qualifying marks in the men's 3000m race.

Sprints: Cravont Charleston's 21.18 in the men's 200m dash at the Tiger Paw Invite ranks second in the ACC this season, outran the ACC qualifying standard, set a new PR and is a top-10 mark in program history.

Henry Young also posted a conference qualifying mark, clocking in at 21.57 for a new person-best mark.

Relays: The women's 4x400m relay clocked in at 4:05.09.

The NC state women's DMR team posted a top-five time in program history on Friday evening. The squad, consisting of Dominique Clairmonte, Alexis Postell, Nevada Mareno and Savannah Shaw clocked in at 11:22.52.

The squad is back in action tomorrow as the men are set to compete in the 3000m and the women are set to compete in the mile.
