I will admit a hope/ expectation that Leary become Finley's successor since he was signed. It had nothing to do with a knock on Mckay or due to just arm strength. I remember the hype similar to the kid that just signed w Auburn (McLaughlin maybe) combined with high school video of him dropping dimes down the field. This gave me hope of a deep ball touch that seems to have been absent in our offense in recent history (possibly due to scheme). I also seem to remember watching him perform well in one of the high school all star games. All that to say I have been impressed w McKay and excited to see what he brings to the table, I just want to say others may have had a "dream" of Leary being the guy based on more than just RPMs. Go McKay and go Pack!!

It's amazing the different opinions you hear from one press conference. In my opinion, the QB position battle is still ongoing. Yes Matt McKay has been on campus the longest and had a leg up on the other two, but I think Coach DD's statement about making the least mistakes was key. To me it sounds like he is playing not to lose instead of playing to win and I am very disappointed in that attitude if it's correct. Sometimes you have to take your medicine to get better. Yes Matt is a better runner and he will get plenty of time this week unless he struggles, but I think both Hockman and Leary may get time in the next three games. Doeren himself said "it's just game one and we had to name a starter." We shall see.

Guys one other thing. I believe Louis Acceus is pronounce A Say Us. That is how Coach Doeren says it. Don't believe it's like Dr. Seuss.

I don't think it is playing not to lose. McKay gives us the best chance to win the 1st game based on all the practices up to now. Leary and Hockman have come on strong lately but they are still a little behind. QB is about the little things and they make a big difference in the early season. McKay has the size and speed and best grasp of the offense and connection with the players. Both the other guys have made great improvement in those areas and they have closed the gap. I just hope the QB situation is fully settled by ACC play.

I understand we have a very young team, especially on offense, and a simpler game plan to kind of take what the defense gives you is not out of line, but down the road you are going to have to have explosive plays. Now can Matt deliver those consistently? None of know. Just my take on what Coach said. I have been a strong supporter of his even before he was hired, but I just did not care for the way he worded his answers and statement. Again different people see the same thing and react differently.
