WATCH: Boone Has High Expectations

N State senior defensive back Shawn Boone is really high on the defense after the first week of fall practice.

How good is this NC State defensive backfield?

We [the defensive backfield] are going to be good. We are coming in and working every day. We have a great receiving corps that is pushing us to be better. We are working on communication, just doing all of the little things that we need to do in order to be a plus to our D-Line so we can get them more sacks and get tip-picks, interceptions. We are just working hand-in-hand.

It is very meaningful because the conference we are playing in, the ACC, we are playing top notch opponents so our receiving corps is one of the best receiving corps in the league. I feel like, as a secondary, we are going to get better every day. There is no should, there is no ifs. We are going to get better every day.

What are your individual and team expectations for 2017?

Team expectations is to take it game-by-game. We want to win every game. We want to go to the ACC Championship, national championship. That is always the main goal because I came here to win the championship. I want to leave here as a champion.

For myself, I have high expectations. Coming off of the season I had last year, there was hiccups but I played pretty well [last] season, knocking people out (laughing), so I just want to continue to build on that and be a pro to the game. Make a lot more interceptions and big hits.

I want to leave a legacy at NC State.

Is there someone off the grid we should look out for at NC State?

I would give you three: Dexter Wright, Nick McCloud and Jonathan Alston. Those three guys are going to have a major impact for us, especially Dex in the position Josh Jones was last year. Dex is having a really good fall camp.

Nick McCloud, he played some last year, showed some glimpses of what he can do. He continued to build off of that.

Jonathan Alston, he didn’t play last year so he is hungry. He is ready to ball and also he is a senior. He is ready to help build on a championship team.
