Personally, i think this is a overreaction. All the freshman get a pass bc its been a BS year. I dont think these players are necessarily not-ACC caliber but they definitely aren't carry the team. I think we have a bunch of ACC role players and are missing the superstar players that you need to actually win in this league

I agree. Hayes and Cam are both ACC caliber as is Duwona and Bates and Fundy. So is Allen and Beverly, but the first are true freshman and the latter are far from elite and perhaps aren't being utilized correctly. Allen and Beverly should probably come off the bench, but we don't have the depth in front of them to allow that.

What have you seen to believe Dowuona is ACC caliber lol. I'd go Gibson before him

I dont agree

all freshmen do not get a pass. Seabron has been at NC State for 2 years, not one.

Three of our freshman should(from their play or lack of it) have been redshirted.

We have no depth outside of guys who look like they should be in prep school after the injury to Devon Daniiels.

Fundy let us down.
Bev almost looks like a shell of his former self
Daniels is done
Hellems is the definition of 'streaky'
Allen has underperformed after having a year in the system
Seabron has underperformed after having a year in the system

So that leaves Manny(solid progress from last year), Moore(outplayed his ranking) and Hayes(played like a Top 150 recruit)

Hellems is the definition of getting better every year. He's definitely out played his ranking.

I have not watched much this season, losing interest as every year goes by.

I thought Cam Hayes was the key for this season. He seemed to have the type of game that might translate early but he has struggled, which is fine but we don't have a squad full of playmakers who can make sound decisions.

Daniels can make things happen, but he was often out of control.

Hellems don't have a good feel for the game. He can do a bit of everything and he hustles, but takes terrible shots and is a turnover waiting to happen.

Thomas Allen can't create off the dribble 1:1 ratio

Shak has been a nice surprise but not a great PG at this point

Seabron is too wild, handles aren't tight enough.

Which leaves us to Beverly, who makes good decisions but can't really create offense and is a defensive liability.

This is a really poor put together roster. If you want to blame it on Lecque or Josh Hall, go ahead.

We need players like Trevor Lacey, Cat Barber, CC Harrison. Players that can make plays off the dribble if we are going to continue to run this P&R offense. Players that can read and react to a defense but also not be a complete defensive liability.

Also, not sure why we took 3 project big men in one class. Literally one who wasn't ready to play this year physically. Not good roster management.

Next year is year 5, Keatts has had his time to put together the roster of his choice. I think he needs to land a Trevor Lacey type guard next year. A guy that can knock down shots and play off the dribble smartly. I don't think you can bank on any of the incoming freshman or Cam/Shak/Allen/Breon.

We also need another big who is ready to contribute from day 1. Those 3 project bigs aren't going to be ready for the big times next year, which leaves us with foul prone Bates and Hellems (undersized).

I don't see how our team is better next year unless we get TWO dynamite instant impact transfers (Like Trevor Lacey, Ralston Turner, ect).

I don't like going the transfer portal route, but Keatts needs to save his job next year and I don't think he has time for the underclassmen to mature and grow.

In regards to your comment about taking 3 project big men in one class, that was my biggest concern when we took Gibson and we had quite a few people on here who didn't agree.

Yep I remember us both commenting on not being quite sure that was a good idea. Full disclosure though I did expect a little more out of Ebe this year...he has provided basically nothing. Keatts IMO needs to hit the transfer portal hard or next year might not be significantly better

Yeah, the 3 lower ranked big guys was interesting strategy to say the least.

Feel like this offseason is very important for Keatts.

I wouldn't of thought at this time last year, DD would have more job security than KK but here we are....

We knew Nick was gonna need to work on his body. He was a top 150 player. I think he just needs to get into shape. We really had messed up expectations to think anyone outside of Cam, Shaq and Seabron would contribute. To be honest Dunlow is right about the veterans. Thomas Allen is been underwhelming. I thought he was gonna be a 15 point guy and Compliment DJ and Daniels. The kid averaged 9 a game at Nebraska in their slow paced game. Maybe he just can't shake the injury. DJ is so inconsistent and Daniels was really good before he got hurt. Braxton is just too hurt to be really good most games. Cole, Manny and Shak has been the bright spots. I'm not super down on this year, I look at it like football last year. Too many injures and maybe some player shake up helps up be great next year. Keatts has never had a season like this as a head coach on any level. He is gonna save face big time next year.

Anyone that thought Thomas Allen was gonna be a15pts/game guy coming off at least one surgery was just setting themselves up for a disappointment. Thomas is a 9-10 pts/game guy, expecting more is unrealistic, IMO.

COVID issues before the season (practice time etc), and a couple pauses during the season did not help guys like Allen and the newcomers. Then losing Daniels in the middle of the season just flat out sucks.

Agree 100%. Not many ACC players on this roster atm. Hell, why did we even recruit farrer? Gibson? Hayes and shak don't look good, but they weren't very highly rated players. Total reset might be needed

Hayes and Moore have their moments and they were both highly rated/recruited players

We need many things but imo the top of the list is a true pg. I don't see anyone that is an above average passer or facilitator. I'm sure the freshmen will improve but how much in that regard? We really miss Kells and his ability to create for others. He was in the top of the league in assists.

We have pass coming in who can hopefully just take over games as his career goes on but I'm not sure what will be expected out of him in year 1. He's another combo guard but he can pass it

Yeah I hear ya. He is a good distributor. Just don't think relying on a freshman next year is in Keatts best interest.

This is my concern for next year. I think we need several things, but will not have the spots to add those things unless a guy or two decides to move on. I hate to use the phrase "push someone out," but that may be what we really need. KK has put himself in a tough spot with all of the developmental pieces he's added IMO, and I'm not sure how exactly to go about fixing that. Hopefully he figures it out.

Yeah. hayes doesn't look good to me, not sure what i'm missing. Doesn't look ready for the ACC ATM. Shak has been good in a couple games, but again, isn't ready for starting/ big minutes in the ACC. Relying on these guys to take us to new heights next season does not excite me.

Haha. How many top 50 (or 75 since that's what he was) freshmen come in and play that way from the start? Did I say he was playing as such? Nope.

That's not really dudes argument either. He said Hayes was "sub 100" which he obviously was not. I really wish Cam didn't have COVID issues as well to help delay his growth this year. He was playing pretty well before that first pause.

As Keatts said how many of these good sophomores this year made jumps from not so great freshman years. He named off 5 kids who made huge jumps. I think Cam can make a jump. I think Shak will be great. We really just need. 3 that is ready to ball next year and we can be really good. I think the transfer wire can be our friend here.

Im starting to think we need more than just a few recruits.

With the transfer rule now 'wide open', I hope Coach uses this as a chance to make up for some previous recruiting missteps(Hall, Lecque) and misses.

Anyone that moves on(other than Shak, Manny and maybe Hayes) is part of the problem right now.

I'd take a 'do over' compared to watching what Ive seen this season
Agree 100%. Not many ACC players on this roster atm. Hell, why did we even recruit farrer? Gibson? Hayes and shak don't look good, but they weren't very highly rated players. Total reset might be needed

Hayes and Moore have their moments and they were both highly rated/recruited players
sub 100 is highly rated? Not sure I agree. Also, I haven't seen any moments from Hayes.
Wait. You think Cam Hayes was sub 100? He was a top 50 kid until he reclassed into the 2020 class. Ended up 75th or so. You haven't seen anything from Cam Hayes? Ok...

Shakeel Moore was a top 120 kid from the two sites that matter. He's also shown as a freshman he belongs in the ACC.

I get you're upset at how the season has unfolded but let's not make up stuff just b/c you're feelings are hurt.
Has Cam Hayes played like a Top 50 recruit?

Is Shakeel playing like a top 150 recruit?

Can these kids not get better? Biggest jump for kids usually happen SO year or so.

We need a lot more than that. I think Dun is right, force a few kids out and replacement them on the Xfer wire. Like 3 new players.

Also - Who are some of those sophomores? I'm interested in looking at their jumps. See if there's any comparison to our guys

Isaiah Wong from Miami

Matthew Hurt at Duke. Top 10-15 kid out of HS, surely didn't play like it last year.

Quincy Guerrier Syracuse

David Johnson Louisville

CJ Felder BC

Buddy Boeheim Syracuse. Check out the jump he made from a FR to a SO
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/buddy-boeheim-1.html

Devin Vassell FSU. Due went from playing 10 mins a game as a FR to a first round draft pick as a SO.

Cat Barber - check out the jump he made from a FR to a SO
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/anthony-cat-barber-1.html

Markell Johnson looked lost as a FR.
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/markell-johnson-1.html

Manny Bates has gotten better each year at State. The RS year did a world of good for him and now as a RSO the kid is averaging 10 and 6 as well as 3 blocks/game.

Those are just ACC guys with obvious jumps in production off the top of my head. The freshman to sophomore jump is most definitely a thing.

No idea who Keatts listed but the FR to SO jump is definitely a thing that happens. The kids obviously have to want it and put in the work but the talent is there.

As a Pistons fan, I can tell you the Saddiq has been absolutely awesome. Casey is ramping up his playing time and he is responding well. Dude has been absolutely spectacular this past week.

Pistons also recently traded for DSjr. Casey has done a really good job with Josh Jackson thus far so hopefully he can get Dennis on the right track as well. If he buys in, we all know what he is capable of.
