He may not have been one of the greatest US presidents in history, although he faced some pretty tough times and did still manage to do some great things. But I think it's fair to say there's never been a greater human being to hold the office. His service to his country before becoming president and his diplomatic and humanitarian work after leaving office, which includes a Nobel peace prize, has to put him up there as one of the truly great Americans and most selfless people to pass through the Oval Office.

A strategic blunder was the GIVEAWAY of the Panama Canal. We'll suffer from this.......and I suspect very soon.

The Iran fiasco is interesting........always been some questions for me as to whether the powers that be sabotaged some of what he was doing. And of course, the runaway inflation.

His integrity/character cannot be questioned.

We haven't suffered for it for nearly 25 years as far as I know. As long as we get to use it and defend it and not pay rent, I'm not sure why we wouldn't let Panama own it and maintain it, seeing as it cuts right through their country.

It's a weird fact that you sail east through the canal to go from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

The Carters in Final Chapter of Life

President Carter's grandson, Josh Carter, tells People Magazine that his grandfather and grandmother, Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter have entered 'the final chapter'.

He's still fully Jimmy Carter," Josh Carter said of his grandfather. "I mean he's almost 99 years old, but he fully understands (how many well wishes he's received) and has felt the love."

Josh also gave an update on Rosalynn, his grandmother, who has dementia:

"They are still holding hands … it's just amazing," Josh Carter added.

1924 Jimmy Carter (James Earl), 39th president of the U.S. (1977-1981), was born in Plains, Georgia.

I for one am very appreciative of the national recognition bestowed upon the former first lady's death... I hope everybody of that honor receive the same. Including Ms.Clinton.

First President I ever saw in person. My mom, and her family were all big Democrats. He came to speak in Roanoke, VA and my parents made us get dressed up in our church clothes and we watched Air Force one land at the airport then heard his speech at the civic center. Later that year, we had to drive through Plains GA and stop at brother Billy's gas station on our way home from Disney

Respect the man, glad he only had 1 term.

That's cool. I've never met or heard, in person, a President in my life.

RIP to a good man who lived his life in a way that would be a positive example for all Americans. Many issues during his one term that were difficult and controversial, but one should never question his desire to make our country and world a better place to live. He was not perfect and made mistakes , but no one could question his integrity. If you historically look at presidents and how "honest" they were - look no further than Carter and Rutherford B. Hayes. Both men unique studies as one term presidents.

RIP. I didn't agree with his politics but he always seemed like a great man.

Old school democrat and I have no problem with that. Today he'd probably be a Republican.

He did the good Lord's work and for that I say RIP Mr. President. Thank you for your service and Gods speed.

Saw him when he was running in '76 on an 8th Grade field trip to DC... it was some kind of parade or something, before he beat Ford that November.
