Just incredible....(and sad)

Looks like they lost the horizontal stabilizer and possibly part of the left wing?

Either way, they didn't suffer. It was over in the blink of an eye.

Something clearly went wrong with the aircraft long before it hit the deck. I can't imagine being one of those drivers up the street….one time I drove into Birmingham and as I approached an intersection, lightning hit a transformer about fifty feet away…I nearly drove into the curb. The guy says the plane is fully intact pre-impact but I don't see it.

Two toddlers on board. Can't imagine what went through the minds of their parents.

Saw an aviation guy on X say that if the stabilizer went along with the ice accumulation, once it went into the dive it was basically a missile at that point. Crazy sad situation.

Also saw that the storm cloud grew from 33k ft to 48.3k ft in about 20 minutes. They likely thought they would clear it or maybe barely nick it in their decent. Would other aircraft in their air space lead them to not deviate? It didn't look like a large cell that got them.

I'm obviously not a pilot but I would have done what I had to to stay safe and deal with the consequences afterwards. Also, is there not a team that can identify things like this in real time to avert planes headed into danger?
