All you need to do is look at a line graph of administration role growth over the past 30 years to spot the issue with public institutions. No different than the federal government where it's constant add, add add and never trim or lean it out. Ever. It should be run like a publicly traded company, every 18 months you trim the bottom 18% or so of lowest performers/low ROI roles.
yes that's what should happen, unfortunately that's not what the law cuts are going to accomplish. I'm interested to see how folks are going to deal with Pell Grants and HSBCUs. Guess we just close them.
I think the popular talking point is to go extreme and say things like that versus cutting waste. That's what all of MSM is doing around doge right now. Surely no one believes there's not waste in the government, including within the DOE? At the end of the day, useful and actual beneficial programs likely won't be cut but you might see a LOT less administration which is desperately needed.
oh I agree, I think that the avenue of taking a wood chipper to a budget when a meat cleaver is just as fine will have unintended future consequences
I would agree with that AFTER the initial wood chipper exercise. Fortune 250 companies do this routinely. You start big with cuts and then add back value add/high ROI activities/roles and eliminate the bottom performing every 18 months thereafter.

The US deficit and debt is far too high and out of control to look for "precision" cuts IMO at this juncture, maybe in a couple of years.

The problem with the "wood chipper" analogy is that there is no way in this short amount of time that "Doge" could properly analyze where to cut. They are cutting critical positions, many of which are not as easily replaceable as some would believe along with possibly "wood chipper" worthy positions. Further the federal government payroll was at its lowest level in 50 years to begin with representing less than 2% of the overall workforce. Some critical areas were already severely understaffed I.e. air traffic control who were then offered early retirement? Smh. As far as value to the American taxpayer these job cuts are kabuki theater best to try and hide the $4 trillion debt limit increase. Elon and his merry band of lumber jacks are not going to be able to cut that, or even 1/4 of that with "efficiency" cuts unless they are allowed to go after entitlement programs and the Pentagon. That's not going to happen. The only thing that's going to happen, and already is, will be a lot of undeserving victims including many North Carolinians losing their jobs all for the purpose of an election optic. All hat, no cattle.

And people that think this is more than Kabuki theater, with absolutely no oversight or promised transparency, that will ultimately benefit no one, and harm untold thousands, designed purely as a shiny object to deflect the $4 trillion debt limit increase proposed, can continue to believe in Santa Claus as well.

Were you all for giving Ukraine, Africa, etc. hundreds of billions over the past 4 years? If you're for that, but against cutting waste then we fundamentally disagree, and that's fine. You can't have the cake and eat it too.

If you're going to conflate aid to these countries which has been appropriated by congress, and don't really understand why that aid is given or the value and national security benefits, which could, btw, cost 1000's of North Carolinians their jobs for essentially a rounding error in the overall budget, then yes we fundamentally disagree. Just because you don't understand it and as such bring a premeditated opinion, doesn't make it waste and fraud.

Do you even know what NCAID does? Even a clue about their budget? It's available as a public record unlike anything being done by Doge. It's not me hypothetically coming up with potential job losses. It's the people who work for the firms that supply and contract with NCAID. Again this is readily available news that's been reported. There are approx 56k jobs her in the state that could be affected. Again not my numbers. Also you seem to lack a basic understanding of what this aid goes for and the benefit. Could there be administrative bloat? Absolutely, but not to the extent that's being played up by this administration and the unelected Oligarch running this side show while further enriching himself. You want cuts. Get rid of $96k bags of bolts with a true market cost of $100 that the military buys. Get rid of the multi billion dollar contracts to build the military aircraft, ships, tanks, etc they either don't need to want. It s rampant and represents exactly what Doge should be looking at. Think they will? My guess is no, because apparently there are enough people who don't know any better and believe that chopping agencies that actually work and help the public is the way to go because that's what some billionaire immigrant tells you. Obviously this is not the forum for this so I'll leave it alone. If you have any data to counter otherwise feel free to dm me. But I'm not interested in what you believe to be true unless it's backed by some level legitimate data. Go Pack.

Based on what numbers? Even msm is reporting voters are happy with what's been done so far, 70% in fact in the last poll I saw.

USAID was an executive order mega-cash cow for decades. It needed to end. Nothing needs to exist for decades as an executive order much less something sucking in billions of dollars a year from tax payers. Talk about fraud.

Now, are there positive work being done via USAID, I'm sure there's something efficient in there and effective. I've never advocated for cutting everything, just complete garbage programs like giving Big Bird to Iraq or condoms for Palestinians. Enough of that crap. Watching western NC languish while billions are being spent on nonsense like that really ticks me off. And we all know it was just money laundering anyways, at least those programs.

Heard from an unofficial source FWIW that all 27 Directors from NIH's sub-agencies and institutes were summoned to Bethesda this past Friday to get their walking papers. Their deputy directors will be sent off as well. Rumor has it that a guy from Duke, reportedly an acquaintance of JD Vance, will be the next director of NIEHS in Durham. I'll stress that none of this is verified, except the part about all directors being in Bethesda last week.

As I said in one of my previous posts yes there can be and there is bloat in government, but your sweeping statement about USAID and the EO is just way off base along with the "condom" myth. You fall for exactly what Trump specializes in. Mixing fact and fiction so that somewhere there is a nugget of truth, which is the con because yes, condoms were part of the aid package but not in the way he portrayed. If you want the whole story here it is. And it's readily available on numerous news sites.

https://apnews.com/article/gaza-condoms-fact-check-trump-50-million-26884cac6c7097d7316ca50ca4145a82#

In terms of Trump's #'s here you go. Perhaps I should have said contradicting but I also happen to believe the honeymoon (if you call approval in the upper 40's good for a new president) will be short lived particularly with the block who held their nose and voted for him. We'll see very soon.

Kind of you to link journalists and organizations who were funded by USAID. lol

https://www.kff.org/global-health-policy/fact-sheet/the-u-s-government-and-international-family-planning-reproductive-health-efforts/

There's you a link to an article from when Biden was your president that states funding at $600M for YEARS for "reproductive health" and "family planning" overseas. Why should US taxpayers be footing that bill?

You're really trying to downplay the amount of waste in government while admitting there is waste. The numbers are so big now we scoff at it until it hits billions and then we notice and some don't even care then. That's not sustainable and I'm afraid by the time some people realize that, it'll be too late, might already be.

Absolutely, we should all be PO'ed about that too. I'm hoping they can trace the bank payments back and find out who actually received and prosecute. My guess is you'll see a relative small number of people using a LOT of SSN's to get social security.

Oh, and the poster above I did agree with him about the DoD should not be paying $100 for a bolt that costs me $3 at Lowe's. Totally agree and support wholeheartedly going after that waste too as that's just another form of money laundering as those contracts are going to companies who in turn give a portion back to whomever gave them the contract. Guaranteed.

Without looking it up, I don't recall but I remember social security "reform" during the Reagan years that moved the retirement age goalpost.
