Curious as to thoughts around the push from all levels of government to ban TikTok in the US. I'm a very hard no on any limiting of freedom of speech but also understand the sensitivity to Chinese spying. A few points that really don't sit well with me about it all.
This absolutely was planned all along, probably for months, but staged to make it appear like something else. You don't just decide to flip a switch and suddenly all your data is flowing through META servers instead of your own.
How do you feel about META now owning one of the biggest sources of information (not always accurate) out there? Feel better they have your data vs. a Chinese company? Is there really a difference if both are allowed to spy on you and take your data for their own purposes? Will TikTok now be censored and controlled just like Facebook was during the pandemic in which Zuckerberg has openly admitted to committing crimes by suppressing free speech?
All of this absolutely reeks to me, on both sides of the aisle. You have Dems and Repubs insider trading, getting rich AND now controlling the data/narrative via a person/company who's more than willing to stifle free speech, limit spread of information they do not agree with and ultimately make themselves the arbiter of truth.
- Same Congress people that are voting to ban the app also purchased LARGE sums of META stock prior to public knowledge of what was going to happen came to be.
- Mark Zuckerberg goes on Rogan doing a publicity tour of how he's a changed man, he was pressured by the Biden Admin to do horrible things, yada yada yada. I said at the time it was ONLY a show and he was positioning his company to be the next TikTok, but I assumed with Instagram Reels, which is similar.
- TikTok goes "dark" for around 12 hours after reportedly no buyer was found and they were not willing to seemingly give up any of the data to meet the restrictions put in place.
- TikTok miraculously comes back online but now traffic is flowing through a Forest City NC data center which is where META has a server complex.
- Facebook made a TikTok account the DAY the app was going to be banned and it was instantly verified.
