Curious as to thoughts around the push from all levels of government to ban TikTok in the US. I'm a very hard no on any limiting of freedom of speech but also understand the sensitivity to Chinese spying. A few points that really don't sit well with me about it all.

  • Same Congress people that are voting to ban the app also purchased LARGE sums of META stock prior to public knowledge of what was going to happen came to be.
  • Mark Zuckerberg goes on Rogan doing a publicity tour of how he's a changed man, he was pressured by the Biden Admin to do horrible things, yada yada yada. I said at the time it was ONLY a show and he was positioning his company to be the next TikTok, but I assumed with Instagram Reels, which is similar.
  • TikTok goes "dark" for around 12 hours after reportedly no buyer was found and they were not willing to seemingly give up any of the data to meet the restrictions put in place.
  • TikTok miraculously comes back online but now traffic is flowing through a Forest City NC data center which is where META has a server complex.
  • Facebook made a TikTok account the DAY the app was going to be banned and it was instantly verified.

This absolutely was planned all along, probably for months, but staged to make it appear like something else. You don't just decide to flip a switch and suddenly all your data is flowing through META servers instead of your own.

How do you feel about META now owning one of the biggest sources of information (not always accurate) out there? Feel better they have your data vs. a Chinese company? Is there really a difference if both are allowed to spy on you and take your data for their own purposes? Will TikTok now be censored and controlled just like Facebook was during the pandemic in which Zuckerberg has openly admitted to committing crimes by suppressing free speech?

All of this absolutely reeks to me, on both sides of the aisle. You have Dems and Repubs insider trading, getting rich AND now controlling the data/narrative via a person/company who's more than willing to stifle free speech, limit spread of information they do not agree with and ultimately make themselves the arbiter of truth.

Insider trading is nothing new for DC. Plenty of places to see what the elected officals are doing since they have to declare any purchase/selling with the FTC. Personally, Id be in favor of banning elected officals from trading at all. If they want to put everything into a blind trust, cool, all for it. But they should not be able to cash in on their inside knowledge.

As far as TikTok goes, China has put all their cards on the table. Not selling off for billions tells you its a psyop, not a business. Ban it and any other replacement app (looking at you, Red Note). Trumps EO extending it 75 days is illegal and I am really curious to see where the challenge comes from, because you know its coming.

As far as Meta goes...I dont really care. I dont use FB and I basically just browse Instagram at this point, so I dont particularly care what they do

I'd be ok with elected officials having maybe ETFs but absolutely no trading of individual stocks, we all know it's insider trading and if you worked for a publicly traded company and were doing that you'd go to jail.

Interesting that the elected officials draw the line in the sand on internet content with TikTok but child p0rn is allowed to still be there. Also, as far as China specifically goes, they've infiltrated every public works system we have (water, sewer, electric, etc.) as well as buying up thousands of acres of farmland, animal processing plants and other essentials but that's cool. TikTok however is definitely crossing the line! lol

It's insanity that TikTok is where our elected officials would place their focus, but that's because they can get rich from it by investing in META.

I'd be more in favor of banning/breaking up META given that Zuckerberg has openly admitted he committed crimes at the behest of the Biden Admin. That's far more dangerous than anything China is doing to us IMO.

Everyone also good with politicians launching meme coins before they take office to enrich themselves and also create a conflict of interest in a financial market?

Man, you are so right, we need to be worried about the 384,000 acres of farmland China owns. By the way, Canada owns 12,000,000 acres. I would like to see the data on the amount of public works systems and processing plants have been infiltrated

This is a false equivalency, Congress enacted a law banning TikTok, the Supreme Court validated it. It is the law of the land. It was done so because it is a product that the Chinese Government is using to collect intelligence and to influence US policy.

Talk about a false equivalency, comparing our oldest ally to China? lol You believe that 384k ChatGPT number don't you? They also own animal processing plants and bought that land near very sensitive sites. But again, definitely TikTok is the issue we need to hyper-focus on.

If you'd like to learn more about how China has infiltrated our infrastructure go listen to the recent 60 minutes interview with Chris Wray about what they've done so far, that we know about. I'll almost assure you that we're only aware of a small portion of it too. But again, no plans in place there and that FAR MORE serious than freaking TikTok.

And please, tell me again why it's ok for Facebook, PBS, CNN, NBC, CBS, etc. do to the bidding of the Biden Admin to influence US policy but me watching a travel or cooking video on tiktok is far worse?

I far more trust individual Americans on TikTok sharing what they've seen, or experiences they've had, then activists parading around as journalists telling me how I should think but you do you.

I'm about a million percent sure you don't want to compare the outgoing pardoned criminal cartel to a meme coin. lol Your party impeached Trump because he called them criminals. Biden pardoned them all because they ARE criminals and he knows it. But, you don't see an issue with that I'm sure.
