World #1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested early this morning on a misunderstanding about traffic flow. Jeff Darlington, an ESPN reporter witnessed this. Apparently the cops did not know who he was or care who he was. Tee times have been delayed by an hour and 20 minutes because of a pedestrian fatality outside Vahalla Golf Club.

Body cam should be interesting.

Should have told them he was an illegal alien or a Soros-hired BLM or Antifa rioter. They can get away with anything.

I want to know what police procedure, in writing, trains officers to "attach themselves to a car." Maybe the reporting is describing it wrong, but that sounded odd to me.

That does sound odd. I need to go and read that.

Given they were investigating a pedestrian fatality in the same area, I'm sure there was a heightened sense of trying to protect others and you've got this guy going seemingly the wrong way into the flow of traffic. I would assume also not obeying traffic commands to stop if an officer had to jump onto the car to try and stop it.

The body cam footage will be interesting to say the least and will paint a pretty clear picture of what really happened.

Did I hear they were plain clothed police? If so, I can see some confusion, on Scotty's part..

Yeah, i suspect the reporting on the actual interaction has been somewhat off, although t it's interesting that there was a reporter right there with Scheffler. At minimum, the police report versus what Scottie's camp have said are pretty divergent
I do believe the police were likely in a very agitated state given the fatality just down the street.

And it seems a pretty standard thing I've seen many times before when you are in high traffic areas with police directing traffic, they get real upset if folks don't listen, even if completely inadvertent

Unless something very unflattering comes out, I would say Scheffler comes out even more respected out of this.
He put on a masterclass of incident management yesterday in a moment that felt completely real and not scripted. And his positive comments towards the police interactions in general helps calm things down

Possibly the most bizarre thing to happen at a major ever. I'll withhold judgement on the incident if/until there is more evidence, because the accounts are way too varied at this point. It's crazy to me that these guys drive themselves to the course. At a regular tour event, I get it, but at a major? I wonder if this incident will cause guys to change it up now and have a driver going forward

I'd read this particular officer was in a fluorescent vest directing traffic. Not sure about the rest of his uniform other than his pants were apparently torn beyond repair according to the report. Did see there is no bodycam footage which is very interesting.

I doubt it because players have been driving themselves to Majors forever. They usually always have courtesy cars with the magnetic stickers on the side saying official vehicle. This is the first time I can remember anything like this happening, so the chances of it happening again are very slim in my opinion.

Yeah, is not that I think anything like that would happen again, but just from a general safety standpoint you'd think they'd want a driver.

Not really related but I was shocked to learn just how many NASCAR drivers either drive their own motorhomes or just drive to the track themselves with the family. Now when on the west coast they fly, but I just assumed these folks had drivers.

So a video of the incident seems to show things happening maybe a little more like Scheffler's version than the officer's. IMO it doesn't exonerate him necessarily, but does raise questions. Also has been reported that the officer broke protocol by failing to turn on his bodycam. I can see this one eventually getting dismissed quietly.

Look at the context of everything. Specifically everyone else's reactions. NO one reacted outside of turning around and looking at the guy and slowly walking over. Trust me. If homeboy was being dragged there would have been a completely different response from everyone else.

That's very true. They likely would have come at him with guns drawn at that point.
