Big L was so smooth, wish he hadn't been taken away so young, I really think he would've been one of the goats.
Great list and these guys today can't compare to the golden era of hip hop.SexualChocolate said:

I can't get into the new rappers/music that my 16 year old son listens to. Just a bunch of nonsense mumbling. LOL
Ice Cube is a good pick. Not sure who'd I'd remove from my own list to bring him in but he's one that's solid for years.Denverpack said:

Civ, I live in Cary, born at the old Rex Hospital (currently, the NC Employment Security Commission) and have lived in Cary, all my life. So, I'm the epitome of a Caryite!Civilized said:caryking said:Civ, you know what's funny... I've never heard of half the people on any of these list. Understood, likely an issue of timing and maybe also geography depending on where you grew up. We all remember fondly the songs of our youth and most everyone prefers the genres of music they fell into in as a kid/teen.
A buddy of mine let me borrow his Fat Boys tape when I was in third or fourth grade in the mid-80's and I fell in love with rhyming and word play and beats of rap.
I love most genres of music though - my family jokes it's like a world tour of music when I put on music at dinnertime. Hip-hop, 80's, Blues, Jazz, Classic Rock, Modern Rock, Reggae, Heavy metal, Bluegrass...so much good stuff out there.

I was a rock listener growing up, until I got hooked on Jazz. Now, it's mostly Jazz or easy listening…
Hokie, what is Dreamville?

Then it was probably just an issue of timing. Kids that graduated from Cary from the late-80's-on were listening to hip hop a bunch I'm quite sure.
Dreamville is what lets all us Triangle Airbnb hosts jack up our rates to $400 - $500/night for a few nights in early April. It's the stuff short term rental landlord dreams are made of.
Seriously though It's a really popular hip hop music festival founded by Fayetteville native and Dennis Smith Jr. buddy world-famous rapper J. Cole that gets put on at Dix Park every year.
