Democratic North Carolina State Auditor Beth Wood is facing multiple charges after leaving the scene of a December crash, including hit-and-run, Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman confirmed Wednesday night.

Wood, North Carolina's auditor since 2009, is facing a Class 2 misdemeanor for hit-and-run resulting in property damage and an infraction for unsafe movement, Freeman told CBS 17.

Freeman also said the Raleigh Police Department is the investigating agency.

I wish I had the timeline of her comments regarding taking responsibility. You would hope that these comments came out a day after the accident...

Probably not. She was whisked away so that she never had to have her BAC checked, when it's quite very obvious that she was drunk off her ass... she'll get off with some kind of wrist slap of "leaving the scene of an accident, blah, blah, blah"... state-owned car, state-funded insurance, etc... so basically the taxpayers will cover the cost of the accident, and she'll basically skate...

No. She didn't even show up.

She's hired Wade Smith's firm to handle things for her.

The North Carolina Department of Administration tells CBS 17 it spent thousands of taxpayer dollars to repair a vehicle assigned to state auditor Beth Wood that was involved in a wreck in December.

The NCDOA said a 2021 black Toyota Camry was assigned to Wood in 2021. The department reported the towing and repair costs related to the incident cost the state $7,707.03.

"On January 24, 2023, the Motor Fleet Management director notified the State Auditor that the vehicle assignment was temporarily suspended due to the ongoing investigation," NCDOA said in a statement.

Documents released by the State Auditor's Office show Auditor Beth Wood (D) drove another state-issued car for weeks after Raleigh police charged her in connection with a hit-and-run crash involving another state-issued vehicle.

The crash happened the night of Dec. 8 when police say Wood drove her car onto the hood of a parked car on South Salisbury Street and left the scene with her car still running.

The auditor's office released travel logs that show the auditor received another car Dec. 12, the same day court documents show that police charged her with misdemeanor hit-and-run.

Several weeks after that, Wood received a letter from the state's motor fleet management director informing her that her assignment of her original car that was involved in the crash was "temporarily terminated." Robert Riddle went on to write, "Furthermore, you are discouraged from driving any other state-owned vehicle during this investigative period."

The logs indicate the state-issued car was still used after that letter was sent.

Two men are facing misdemeanor charges in connection to North Carolina State Auditor Beth Wood's December car crash, according to court documents obtained Wednesday by WRAL News.
Jonah Mendys, 26, of Chapel Hill, is charged with obstructing justice and passenger failure to give information. The documents say Mendys was in the passenger seat of Wood's state-issued car.

Ryan McGuirt, 29, of Chapel Hill, is charged with obstructing justice and accessory after the fact.

The documents allege Mendys failed to report the crash, and that he "did unlawfully and willfully delay a criminal investigation by assisting Beth Ann Wood, the driver, in fleeing the scene of a reportable accident and into an adjourning building out of the site of witnesses and law enforcement. This act prevented, obstructed, impeded and hindered legal justice."

Public records state McGuirt "did unlawfully and willfully delay a criminal investigation by assisting Beth Ann Wood, the driver, in fleeing the scene of a reportable accident by assisting her to a parking lot and transporting her away in a white Toyota Tacoma truck that is his personal property, transporting her away from the scene. This act prevented, obstructed, impeded and hindered legal justice."

Taking a seat in the courtroom this afternoon was State Auditor Beth Wood who pleaded guilty to a Class 2 misdemeanor for hit-and-run related to a December 2022 crash.

On Thursday afternoon, it was also decided that Wood will pay $11,000 in restitution which has been done. Wake County's District Attorney Lorrin Freeman told Judge Louis Myer she was "satisfied" with that amount. In addition, Wood paid a $300 court fine.

Not much to discuss.

She ****ed around and found out.

Resigning is obviously the right call. She should have done it earlier.
