A bowl of ice cream at night is one of my vices. Love Howling Cow, but it's not available here. Also a big fan of Blue Bell, but it's only been stocked at Walgreen's.

Typically, we buy Turkey Hill from Food Lion. However, recently FL has dropped both Turkey Hill and Edy's from their product stock. They have been replaced by a brand called Tillamook (same as the cheese folks, apparently), and gratefully, Blue Bell.

Tried the Tillamook just to see how it is, and although good, there's something about it I'm not a fan of. At least now we can get the full half gallon containers of Blue Bell whenever we shop at FL.

Any of y'all ice cream addicted? And to what brand?

Ice Cream is definitely my favorite dessert, milkshakes especially.

Ben & Jerry's Milk & Cookies is probably my favorite ice cream flavor ever.

I'm brand agnostic, but any ice cream I get needs to have lots of things in it. For this reason I'm a big fan of some of the weird Ben & Jerry's flavors out there.

Haven't had ice cream since December. Miss it dearly. When I do, it will be frozen custard from Goodberry's. Vanilla concrete with blackberries and pecans. Heaven.

I absolutely love Ben & Jerry's Oat of this Swirled (like a cinnamon oatmeal cookie flavor). I'm more loyal to flavors I like than I am to branding though.

Ice cream doesn't always agree with me so I don't eat it a lot, but Talenti is a great high-end choice. Generally if I eat ice cream it's a Cookout milkshake.

not too big on ice cream because I try to stay fit but there is this one strawberry shortcake personal ice cream you can get at food lion that is delicious. Wish I remembered the brand name

Ice cream is manna from the heavens. To me it's also like most wine and bourbon. How much I enjoy it ranges from "a lot" to "a whole lot."

I love love love how creamy Tillamook is. It's my current store-bought fave.

I've got an obvious emotional attachment to Howling Cow (which I also think is quite good in it's own right).

Goodberry's custard is another favorite (again, the creaminess of their custard is hard for most ice creams to beat).

If you're in Raleigh, Two Roosters is phenomenal if you're looking for more gourmet, farm-to-table type stuff.

If you love chocolate, keep reading. Eight or 10 years ago we went over to a friend's for breakfast and afterward he pulled a homemade ice cream maker bowl out of the freezer with some homemade chocolate custard in it he'd made the night before. It was as life-changing as food can be. It's honestly some of the best stuff I've ever put in my mouth, of any food type. So simple, creamy, rich, smooth, and so, so chocolate-ey.

I leave this here for your consideration, and hopefully, your enjoyment this spring and summer...

Grady's Homestyle Chocolate Custard

Ingredients

1 1/2 ounces unsweetened cocoa powder, approximately 1/2 cup
3 cups half-and-half and 1 cup heavy cream
8 egg yolks
1 C sugar
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract **use the good stuff not that imitation bull******
salt

Directions

1. Place the cocoa powder along with 1 cup of the half-and-half into a medium saucepan over medium heat and whisk to combine.
2. Add the remaining half-and-half and the heavy cream. Bring the mixture just to a simmer, stirring occasionally, and remove from the heat. In a medium mixing bowl whisk the egg yolks until they lighten in
color. Gradually add the sugar and whisk to combine.
3. Temper the cream mixture into the eggs and sugar by gradually adding small amounts, until about 1/3 of the cream mixture has been added.
4. Pour in the remainder and return the entire mixture to the saucepan and place over medium low heat. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon and reaches 170 to 175 degrees F.
5. Pour the mixture into a container and allow to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
6. Stir in the vanilla extract.
7. Place the mixture into the refrigerator and once it is cool enough not to form condensation on the lid, cover and store for 4 to 8 hours or until the temperature reaches 40 degrees F or below.
8. Pour into an ice cream maker and process.
9. Return to freezer for 3 to 4 hours to allow the ice cream to set up.
10. Try not to eat the whole bowl in one sitting.

If I ever meet you, rest assured the first ice cream and bourbon drink both are on me.

Homemade is always the best! I may have to try that out - it looks like something I might not be able to screw up and my wife loves chocolate ice cream.

I don't know if you guys are familiar with the Binging With Babish series on YouTube, but he did an episode on milkshakes inspired by the milkshake scene from Pulp Fiction. We watched it just a couple of weeks ago. He gives instructions for homemade ice cream. It's not chocolate though, so not as good as Civilized's concoction.

Is there anything better than a fresh chocolate milkshake with a tasty burger and some salty crispy fries?

I love ice cream but recently I've been trying to get myself to stick to the lower calorie options. Sugar Free Klondike bars and Yasso bars have been what I've been eating recently.

Now if Im indulging, nothing is better than a milkshake to me. And those Snicker Ice cream bars are a guilty pleasure.

Interesting.

What do they use instead of sugar? Nasty nutrasweet or something decent like Stevia or Erythritol?

Ice cream is my favorite dessert and it's not even close. I have no self control if it's in the house. My favorite is probably Pralines and Cream, especially over chocolate chess pie warmed slightly in the microwave 5-10 seconds. OMG, hell yes.

Not a big fan of ice cream, not a go to for me. I'm more of a REESE'S peanut butter cup fan. I buy some and freeze them, IMO the best way to eat them.

Interesting. Love them both individually but wouldn't have thought of pairing them. Nice!

No matter what question you ask the answer is always 'Ice cream is heavenly'.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I usually will get a chocolate chess pie over the holidays and serve it with the ice cream on top. It's sinfully delicious.

Mrs BTG just came in with a carton of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla with Strawberries. I had to have a sample after the first few wings I ate earlier. It's not bad. Will buy again.

I'll second this. Their farm and original store in Ayden is great. Been at the Crystal Coast this week and they also have a place in Morehead City, plus the Friendly Market in MHC serves their packaged pints and gallons.
