Following this because I've got around 35,000 from the 80's/90's. Wondering if it's even worth going through them for the ones worth something.

Me too. I think the best one I have is an Emmitt Smith rookie card and I don't think even that one is worth much.

I have baseball cards mainly. Many rookie cards but just not sure where to even start. Wish someone would come along and offer me $0.10 a card and I'd sell them all.

from what little research ive done, i know that in the sports card world in the late 80's and into the 90's is when they really started to mass produce stuff which makes things worthless,

i think my gameplan is going to be to keep all the rookie cards and cards of hall of famers i can find and junk the rest because the commons are worth less than a penny,

Most of what I have is from the same time period, and I've just decided to just hang on to it all and maybe give it to friends kids when they get old enough to get into it. I know there's some things in there worth a little bit, particularly some of the older stuff I've got, but not enough to really go through the hassle of unloading it at this point. Thankfully I have the space to store it, so there's no pressing need to do anything with it.

I'm pretty into card collecting. Basically anything from 1988-1992 isn't worth much, some early to mid eighties rookies could be worth a lot though. It's all about condition. If you have any questions feel free to send me a message, I love talking about cards.

Interesting this thread came up... just yesterday, my wife made me go through my old cards and do something with them. Well, my wife is donating 98% of them to some place... I do have a few that I need to look more deeply into. Several 50's and early 60's cards like Mickey Mantel, etc... none of the cards that have sold for stupid money in the past..

I do have a Walter Payton rookie card as well as an interesting card... when Magic Johnson's son was born, he had one of the major card makers make a run of about 30 cards with him, his wife, and the baby boy (the kid that's a fashion/media person today). The actual printer ran an extra sheet of the cards and gave me one. So, I got one of the 6, 10, or whatever the number was (not many).

I always wanted a David Thompson card; however, his rookie year, the cards, I believe, were an oversized card and his was expensive at the time... never bought one...

So weird that you guys started this thread. I actually pulled out my baseball cards a couple weeks ago to start going through them. I got wind of a couple that were pretty valuable that I thought I had. I started looking through them but I have not had time lately to do it. (3 kids, wife, chores, work).

Most of my cards are from the early 90's. And most of them are largely worthless even ones I thought were really cool. I have several Derek Jeter prospect and rookie cards though that I need to figure out what to do with them. Apparently you can get cards graded and if they're condition is really good their value increases a lot but I don't know where to go to do that. I subscribed to Beckett online to start looking up some cards but so far haven't gotten very far.

Yeah getting cards graded can be a little bit of a hassle. PSA is the best and they just raised their prices and it takes forever to get the cards back. If the Jeter rookie cards are in great shape, it can definitely be worth sending them in though.

I have a ton of cards from when I was a kid. None of them are sports related though. I was a big nerd.
Same problem though. I have thousands packed up. I know some are actually valuable ($20-100, nothing crazy) but I don't want to go digging through all of them

Right now would be a good time to go through it. Everything went up in price big time when the pandemic started. I feel attached to a lot of my stuff because it reminds me of my Dad and he passed away a few years ago, but I should probably be selling it right now.

Not sure of your age, but did you collect any of those X-Men cards in the early 90s? Those are the only non-sports cards I got but they were a lot of fun.

Yeah but I'm skiddish about sending cards in the mail. Is there not a way to go to a store or somewhere and do it? These particular cards have been in plastic sleeves for almost 30 years. I know that's not glass but they look like they're in perfect condition (I know I know just to my eye). But seriously my cards are in great shape. I have several that I believe could be worth $20-$100 range but those aren't the ones I'm talking about possibly getting graded.

i came across a store last night on the internet thats in Winston-Salem, Score More Sports and theyre apparently a Beckett Certified submission center, so you can take your cards there instead of mailing them to the unknown

here's the link https://www.scoremorenow.com/services

Yep, a lot of times these places can get better prices too. I would just always make sure to read reviews online so you don't get scammed.

My older brother had a ton of those, but I only have a few have some myself.

No I was into Magic the Gathering and Dragon Ball Z cards. I'm not sure DBZ cards have any value anymore, but Magic is still very popular and I have some very rare, older cards

Yep. That T1-11 siding should be worth about $35 a sheet.

Not telling how many thousands of dollars I've thrown away by having Lord knows who's card I had close pinned to my bicycle spokes as a kid

I remember buying some kind of chewing gum back in the 70s that came with baseball cards. The gum was freaking awful but wish I still had all those cards.

That flat, hard gum, was tough to start with.. It would ease up after a few chews...

Check Ebay.
That's your best chance to get fair value, most likely.

Thanks. I've been considering doing this but not that familiar with ebay. I know I've got rookie cards for a bunch of players and many I have multiples so I'm just trying to get rid of them. Got way to many commons so taking the decent ones out and getting rid of the others.
