Recently bought a turntable to play some vinyl records that I've been holding onto for the last 40 years or so. Got me to thinking that I want to put a collection together of 10 of the greatest rock albums ever (that I don't own) to add to the vinyl collection. Here's what I've come up with so far and these are must have's for me. Give me some suggestions to fill out the group.

Led Zeppelin- Physical Graffiti

Fleetwood Mac- Rumours

AC/DC- Back in Black

The Eagles- Hotel California

Metallica- And Justice For All (debated between this one and the Black album)

Some others I'm considering:

Led Zeppelin- IV (could probably put four or five different Led Zep albums on here)

Linkin Park- Hybrid Theory

Foreigner- Double Vision (Also loved Four)

Dire Straits- Brothers in Arms

Boston- Boston (considered Don't Look Back as well)

Def Leppard- Pyromania (They'd definitely be added but already have this one)

ELO- Face the Music (another that would certainly be in my top 10 but have this one as well)

BTW, I suppose I'm looking more at Arena Rock so not really considering artists like Prince or Michael Jackson. Beatles and Elvis were before my time.

Have to have some Van Halen in there. Any of the first 6 albums is good, if not all of them. No hard rock band has had a run of quality like that with their first 6 right out of the box. Untouchable.

Probably some Queen as well. I'm not a huge Queen fan although I do like them. But "arena rock" pretty much has to include them, I'd think. My favorite Queen record was "The Game", although I'd probably be an outlier on that.

Not sure if you're counting "Greatest Hits" albums or not, but if so...

The Cars -- Greatest Hits
Journey -- Greatest Hits

And I like all the stuff you've listed --- classic/arena rock, as well as heavy metal.

But Tool's Lateralus would also make my Top 10.
If that's on vinyl, and you've never heard it, I'd definitely recommend.
Heck, their latest one -- Fear Inoculum -- might make the cut, too.

Oh yeah, gotta have The Cars and Journey for sure.

Might as well throw in some Styx and REO as well.

Doobies

Chicago

Bad Company

Judas Priest

Heart

What about ZZ Top?
It's hard to pick one album, because their "good" songs are so spread out -- and it also depends on whether you prefer the pre-Eliminator sound or the post-electronic shift.

Agreed on VH and they don't get the credit they deserve. Those first 6 albums are fantastic.

I don't want to derail your thread, Steve.... but what would be the best place to buy a turntable? (Steve, or anyone else.)

I'm not really looking for a "classic" model from the 70s or anything. Something "new" that's high quality would be fine, as well.
Should I just look on Amazon? Any other recommendations?
Thanks!

I just bought one a couple of weeks ago. I got the Audio-Technica...not sure what your budget might be but this particular one has bluetooth to connect to speakers or you can add wired speakers. I would definitely recommend this model and if you shop around may be able to find a better price for it with Black Friday here.
