Have a 94 corolla that I've been told needs a new driver's side cv axle and both lower ball joints replaced.

Anybody have a recommendation of where to go to get this work done? So far the quotes I've received have been in the $600 range.

I'm currently replacing the tie rod ends, lower Ball joints, control arm bushings, etc. in my 1990 Dakota. It's not that difficult of a DIY job if you are so inclined. I have a lift, so it makes it easier. I've removed the arms and tie rod ends, but need a press kit for the Ball Joints. I hired a mobile mechanic who does that work to come spend an hour tomorrow pressing out the old and pressing in the new. I'll let you know how he does and the cost.

Having a lift would be great. Tough as hell to get under the corolla. I have ramps I use for everything else but obviously that won't work replacing the axle and ball joints.

Any brands you like or are staying away from for those parts? Thought about Cardone select or gsp for the axle and moog for the ball joints.

don't know your location, but if it is any help this is what i do, for the parts and book time (3 hours @ 75/hour) i would quote the job out at about $460-$475, please stay away from anything cardone!!!! and i wouldn't use anything but Moog for the ball joints. hope this helps!!!

I'm in cary. Tried to pm you but for some reason I can't. Let me know how to get in touch with you.

What brand would you use for the axle?

You have to go to premium on this site to use the PM function. You can do that for $1 for the rest of this month.

Agree, Cardone as of late has been junk for me...I had both a bad master cylinder and vacuum booster rebuilds that were bad off the shelf. Moog for Ball Joints for sure if you plan on keeping the car awhile. Anything else if you are moving on from it in a year or two's time.

the type of parts i sell and mainly use in our shop are Carquest (Advance - same thing),I have not had any issue with their new cv axles. NCV69517 should be your new cv axle part number, should run about 70 bucks, your ball joints k9742 for your Moog, are also going to be about 70/each or about 25/each for the economy driveworks brand part #dw-k9742. be glad to help anyway i can but i am about 2 hours due east of you.

2 hours may be a little too far but thanks for all of the help.

I completed my project today....Ended up not really needing the mechanic...he used all my tools and lift But it did help having two hands.

I asked him about ball joints and CV axle on your 94 and he estimated about $200-$240 in labor. You supply the parts. Ball joints are about $50 a pair for Driveworks, $140 a pair for Moog. Axles are about $70, so it'd be around $320 to $360.

Now if you want to do it yourself, I can probably help you change the ball joints. I have the ball joint separator (although I think a corolla joint bolts in) and ball joint press. As well as a lift and pneumatic air wrench. I've never done a CV axle, but looking at this video, doesn't look hard. Save you $240, but at the risk you or I don't know what we're doing

I'm near Cary off Lake Wheeler Rd

Thanks for the offer! I went ahead and bought the parts and will have someone install them for $220. Ijust don't have the time to get to it. I had watched that video and it seems pretty straight forward but for some reason whenever I do my projects they don't go as smooth and easy as the videos.

I'd love to hear more about your lift. Is it in your regular home garage? What kind of price range are we talking to have one installed?

It's a 10 Ton certified. Bought it from Derek Weaver and picked it up myself in Thomasville, NC and installed it in my garage. I used an engine hoist to set the columns up and from there it was easy. I hired someone to hammer drill in the lugs into the concrete....didn't want to mess that part up.

Here's the one I bought....In the 5 years since I bought it, price of steel has gone up...it's priced now at $2200 if you pick it up from their warehouse. I think I paid $1700 5 years ago. I bought it even before I had a garage

I built a detached 3 car garage, with an apartment over 2 of the bays. The third bay I left as a cathedral ceiling that's 20' high, so plenty of room to lift vehicles...even trucks.
