I had no idea they had reached the finals 3 out of the last 4 years. I enjoyed watching them play several games this year. Congratulations Ladies@

I literally now live on the same street as Ronnie Snipes did when he was in school (about six houses down). His dad passed away about 10 or so years ago. His father worked for years at the old Davis Bakery in the Yorktown section of Durham and then was a carpet cleaner for years after that.

I had not heard of Tommy Harris, but it is neat that Southern sent a kid to UCLA. My favorite player as a kid was Freeman McNeil, and he was a Bruin too. Harris might have played with him.

Snipes graduated in 1979 and started out at Fork Union Military Academy. Harris graduated in 1980 and I believe started out at Taft Junior College in California.

Snipes sure could talk junk in those days. One game my junior year, he was letting us have it. I yelled across the line of scrimmage and said, "Hey man, why don't you just play ball?" To which he replied, "Shut up, or I will kick your ass, too", Lol!

That sounds like the old Southern. It is pretty much the new Southern too.

Snipes and his dad could not stand Dick Crum. His dad said Crum spoke more to them during recruitment than he did the entire four years he was in Chapel Hill.

Question for those fathers or mothers if any post….that Joco team was legit, well coached and that pitcher tough. Seems like Pitt county had won a few national championships at different age groups recently as well. Why aren't the NC college softball teams better? Seems they would correlate . I guess the answer these days is these SEC/Big 12 teams spending legit NIL on softball is the answer but seems a bit odd.

That's a good question. Close to home, Pack softball doesn't seem to have benefited much. Our current coach seems to slowly be making strides. But we need to find a way to get this in state talent to Raleigh.
