Question for those fathers or mothers if any post….that Joco team was legit, well coached and that pitcher tough. Seems like Pitt county had won a few national championships at different age groups recently as well. Why aren't the NC college softball teams better? Seems they would correlate . I guess the answer these days is these SEC/Big 12 teams spending legit NIL on softball is the answer but seems a bit odd.
That's a good question. Close to home, Pack softball doesn't seem to have benefited much. Our current coach seems to slowly be making strides. But we need to find a way to get this in state talent to Raleigh.
I umpire highschool softball, travel softball and Juco/D3/D2 college softball. I can comment on the state of the talent in North Carolina.
To be frank, there might be a single handful of girls who are Power 4 D1 level recruits each year. Most girls playing showcases in the travel circuit who are being recruited in NC will end up at a D3 school or Juco with the hope to transfer to a mid-Major D1 program if they can develop.
Softball is growing in popularity in NC but its a rough road because Top Gun has killed the local rec leagues so now you have to join travel ball at 8u to learn the game, but thats another topic for another day.
Personally i think Leftwich was a great hire, a great assistant from LSU, and she has slowly been doing things to get herself more national notoriety, like this summer she was an assistant on the professional softball team in durham. that will help tremendously in recruiting transfers and top highschool players.
