This is definitely obviously the owners being cheap. But the minor leagues are still very bloated. I will take the Padres for example. They have a single A, high A, double A and Triple A teams. Then throw in the Arizona Complex league. None of this even mentioning their international teams. At best your best minor league systems might have 10 legitimate prospects. 10 guys spread over 6 leagues. Barely 2 per team if it was spaced out evenly. There is just a lot of bodies in place basically there so your prospects have someone to play against on many of these teams. Guys pretty much that should be selling insurance or moving into coaching but are needed to fill out rosters. Honestly the players that are legitimate should want it to contract. As they would be even more in demand with less "supply". They need to argue getting to arbitration faster. Most players biggest contracts come when their actual skill set starts to diminish. Leaving most with only 1 big contract.
