Yep disappointing but go get a proven guy out of the portal. We should be willing to invest in middle of the field guys and SPs and back of bullpen guys.

These are the situations that are really frustrating as a fan. Anyone who follows NC State baseball the least bit knew Lanphere isn't an offensive player and he's an average defensive catcher. Yet for some reason, our former coach chose to ride Lanphere rather than give DeCarlo a bigger role. Now we lose him.

Ryder Woodson 2.0. We can (and likely will) upgrade the position, but still a kid that showed some promise when given the chance. I understand why people are upset, but not the end of the world IMO

I immediately thought Ryder Woodson 2.0 as well.

So where did Woodson go and what's he doing now?

Woodson ended up at Mississippi State and was their starting SS. Hit .280 with 8 homeruns and 15 doubles. Definitely a nice season, but statistically S. Johnson and Ryan had better years

I imagine State will upgrade over Lanphere/DeCarlo like they did over Woodson, but the question then is why didn't those guys play more while here.

Can we upgrade, maybe, but it certainly is far from a sure thing. Look what we ended up bringing in (really back) last year after losing Sosa.

Using the Payton Green rule you get .255 4HRs 4 doubles

I think there's almost zero point with the portal era of an argument of "if we played him more this year he might have stayed"...feels like everyone is pretty much on a year-to-year deal at this point.

Baseball is still a little different from hoops in that regard.

This. Plenty of dudes have left that played every day, and conversely, we've brought in guys that were staters. If a kid wants to leave, he's gonna leave.

Eh baseball actually been churning over rosters a lot longer than bball. Transfers, jucos, draft picks been common practice in college baseball for 30 years.

We used to average like 10 fall transfers a year, basically just tryouts.
