I have heard it the whole time on the boards! Surely a reliever turned into a starter can average the most pitches in the acc!

They pretty much don't. Pitchers get hurt. Especially high velocity, slider heavy ones. Anyone blaming the staff just wants to be mad.

SVD tore his after just 8 total innings in three games last year. It sucks out loud, but it happens. Hare it for him.

Eh not sure I agree with that. Yes throwing hard and throwing more breaking balls is harder on the arm but even worse when you're doing it 110 times a game.

There's a reason no major league pitcher throws over 100 pitches anymore. Big time investment with high risk low reward.

Hope he bounces back and I hope he had some kind of insurance policy because he just lost a lot of money. Blame who you want but I'm sure he will look back on it and say he probably should have done it differently.

It seems like every season we lose a key pitcher to injury.

And even with those pitch counts, dozens of major leaguers get Tommy John every year. I'd be shocked if Skenes doesn't tear his UCL within the next 5 years regardless of what the Pirates do with him.

You know he only throws 2 pitches right?

Staff
Heartbreaker. Easy to blame the staff but there's an element of this that's just inevitable. Every pitcher is a flight risk whether they throw 20 pitches or 120. 3 other pitchers on State's roster have had it. Would this have happened if he threw 95 pitches per start? Maybe not right now but eventually yeah probably

He very well could.

You don't find it interesting that mlb teams that spend literally hundreds of millions of dollars on pitchers contracts don't let them go over an inning limit for the year or keep them on hard pitch counts though?

Like they might know more about it than the casual fan or college coach.

BS Ethan. Inexcusable he was throwing over 100 pitches every start. Chrysler needs to be fired asap! If Avent refuses then he steps down at years end! Season is over! Poor ass management!

This- if he needs the surgery now, it was bound to happen sooner or later, innings count be damned….

CC calls pitches. EA makes every other decision, including who, when and how long they pitch.

Dudan finishes at a 4.01 ERA in 128 innings which is a disservice to how good he actually was. K rate, ground ball rate and slider were elite. 3 months from the draft is devastating, D1 had him as the 35th best college prospect last week. He'll drop but still 3rd/4th round pick

Feel sorry for the young man. He must be devastated - what a lousy way to end his season and most likely college career. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

No and if even if he did, he would not be ready to pitch during the season

I'm a Mets fan and have seen every single one of their high end young pitchers get hurt even though they were "babied" all throughout the minors and early on in their career.

For most pitchers, it's inevitable. The human body is not designed to throw that hard and with that much spin.

Keith Law from the athletic had him rated #27 for the draft. He still might go round one but with a well under slot deal.

A college pitcher may have what, 15 or so starts, and and pro has at least double that many so there's that to consider.

So, you're saying the staff didn't develop him either? Year 3 and still throwing the same stuff as high school. Great job by all.

I will say this. 115 pitches is too many in this day and age. This isn't a Nc State thing this is a college baseball thing.
