I probably wouldnt do it against Lafayette but the pitch count stuff is made up BS. Guys throw less pitches than ever and blow out their arms more than ever in MLB
In Japan they throw over 100 every outing and stay healthy because they only start once a week. Kind of like...college baseball
I don't agree with this and I have a son who is a college pitcher. A big reason you see so many arm injuries these days is because of the over use as kids. Pitch counts and how often they throw and almost year round.
A lot of people on here talking about stuff they don't know much about.
I agree with how arms are handled as youth being a major problem. Not as many multi sport athletes now - no off-season to rest arm - throwing with no proper guidance in thrown together travel tournaments etc.
I coached high school baseball before there were pitch count rules. I had kids go over 100 pitches - and in 9 seasons we never had a single arm injury. Yeah, we'd scratch a start here and there for soreness - but never had any season ending injury, never had a kid go under the knife. Being at a small school, 80% of our guys played multiple sports - and I think in the life of the arm that made a big difference - even the guys that went on to play in college - none ever ended up in surgery.
These guys in college, the starters - they throw once every 7 days - they have training staff, nutrition, strength and conditioning - and on top of that all the metrics to indicate if there is any weakening in mechanics, posture, etc. I just don't see pitch count being the definitive call on when a pitcher comes out of a ball game.
