Will be interesting to see if Smith actually ends up at another school since he's draft eligible. Guys like him may be taking a cue from basketball and putting their name in the portal while also pursuing pro options.

Hard to get drafted as a RHP bullpen guy that tops at 92

Wit a sliderer that to0ps 86

He doesn't even throw a slider. He throws an old school 12/6 that probably doesn't reach 80.
You have no clue what you are talking about, it is 10000% a slider. The pitch doesn't have to "Slide" to be a slider.

lol a slider is typically thrown harder and with late break. His is a slower 12/6 breaker.

Derrick himself would be surprised to know that he doesn't have a slider.

"I usually establish the four-seam first because you want to land that fastball. I have a two-seam to go with that, which I like to go inside on hitters a lot. I got a slider -- I go slider not curveball -- that's probably my favorite pitch to throw."

All these portal entries make me wonder if a) the team knows a coaching change is coming, b) they were not as close as we'd been led to believe or c) this is simply the new normal?

That was in HS. How about just going back and watching him pitch last year. I know not is nuanced for some to distinguish between curveball and slider so not really sweating. And by the way, almost nobody says they throw a curveball anymore. Everyone calls their breaking ball a slider. What Dusan throws is a slider. What Smith threw last year was a curveball.
I will go back and watch to make sure my memory isn't failing me but I certainly remember a high spin lower velo 12/6.

So yo think he's just going to stop throwing a pitch that caught recruiters eyes It's a slider. You're the only poster I've ever heard James call out by name in a zoom call that did make a post while I that zoom call.

Like on a clock. A 12/6 curve has more vertical break, from the 12 to the 6.

Smith throws a slider in the 80-84mph range, at least it was last year.

The shape of the breaking ball. So it means it breaks from 12 to 6 on the clock. In other words allot completely vertical with no horizontal movement.

Truthfully, I'm not even worried yet. Not nearly as worried as I was when Tommy white and Peebles (lol) left. None of these guys that have left were contributors. We had the season we had this year, pretty much, without them. I'm sure some were penciled in as contributors for next year like Ryder, but for whatever reason he didn't play this year hardly at all, so we have no idea who he actually is. It's tough to judge a guy in 35 plate appearances.

If we begin to lose guys like McHugh or a SP I'll worry.

With respect to Woodson…no offense to him but the two days of great hitting came against Central Connecticut and Stetson.

They didn't play him. If he were injured he wouldn't have pitched IMO.

You of all people should know everybody calls everything a slider these days. It isn't fashionable to throw a curveball.

Went back and looked at the 9th and 10th against Kentucky. Just as I said fb at 92 (and the announcer said he overthrew the 92 fb) and the 12/6 'slider' at 81 (sorry not 80 o misspoke). I should have said sits 92. Honestly though he never throws a fastball so hard to say exactly where he sits but 92 is prob pretty accurate.

Original point, not very likely for a RHP 1 inning guy in college sitting 92 with 81 'slider' getting drafted.
