Too many what if's and a bunch of second guessing of decisions, gives you a game you could have won, but didn't. Missed calls, base running mistakes, questionable coaching decisions and 4 double plays is not a good recipe for winning. Even Andrew Sanders was second guessing the Nance decision to leave him in.

Well we don't have to worry about hosting for sure now. Depending on where we end up, maybe we can make some noise, or play 2 and Bar-B-Que. We got a week to get our stuff together or it will be the latter of those two scenarios.

And yet, you're one defensive play away from winning and not having to bat in the ninth.

But we didn't win

Went to the game. Few that really stand out are the missed tag, Head play in center where he ran into the wall and the double play where Ozzy didn't score. Really didn't understand that last one when Clemson was conceding the run.

Just a tough read for ossenfort bc ciufo could have caught it in the air so he had to wait. If it's a grounder all the way, he takes off on contact.

Honestly that plus the early 50/50 tag call going against us as just a harbinger that it wasn't our day.

Clemson had 16 hits, you're going to score some runs with 16 hits.

Beating any team 4 times, let alone a hot Clemson team is a tall task, and close losses like last night always leave a bunch questions. Good to see us hit a bit better, but our lack of power at the plate overall is glaring. Regardless - let's go wreck somebody's hosting weekend next week! Go Pack!!!

Mistakes were made, for sure, but they had their mistakes too. I didn't have a problem not bunting with Ossenfort on third, he showed why later in the game. I don't have a problem with Head's throw, despite what the announcers said, you can't assume an outfield assist. Don't have a problem bringing Nance out for the 8th, he's been your guy. Not going to complain about Fraasman not bunting, I don't recall him getting one down all year. I'm sure if there was a scenario where we needed a right handed pinch hitter we would've gone to Novy, but their guy was giving up .200 more average points to lefties. ultimately, your (arguably) three best arms can't give up 16 hits and win. That's just a really tall task. Pitching has been the biggest strength, but they couldn't stop Klem last night. Flush it, and on to the regional.

Losing 2 of 3 to Stanford bothers me way more than last night's game.

It's nice to always field a top20 team and never sweat out the selection show…

Clemson played smart ball vs our best pitchers last night

We have to find some pop next year. You can't win consistent playing small ball

I expect Sosa and Nav to be 15+ homer guys next year

Just don't think this is our year to get to Omaha-He should of retired last year after the Omaha run

Ossenfort could not take off because it was a sinking line drive. The Clemson shortstop might could have caught that in the air but by catching it on the short hop he got the double play and held the runner at 3rd. He can't intentionally drop it, but he can let it hit the ground and he might have done that.

Really good game for the casual fan last night. Tough loss though for the Pack. We had plenty of chances to add crooked numbers on the board and couldn't do it. Too many LOB. Too many double plays. Felt like we had 1st $ 3rd with nobody out quite a lot last night but unable to capitalize. Still believe this team can win a Regional. Have to put it all together though better than we did against Clemson.

Too many mistakes by players and coaches but they never stopped fighting. Let's see where we'll have to go and win that regional.

Watching it live with no replay is hard to tell. I'd still think as soon as he sees the throw to second he breaks home but maybe Hart held him.

On the broadcast they discussed that if he had broken home after the throw, the second baseman would've probably gone home and had him out by a mile. Whether that would've happened, or whether the 2B would've still gone to first for the double play, who knows.

Players are young men, they make mistakes at times, but the coaching staff is not and should, I repeat should know better. I've watched our Pack a lot this season and I was screaming in my head, Nance has been great for multiple innings, but when he's starting to get touched, bring in Dudon before we lose this game. I love this team and they deserved better. Go Pack!!

I like Avent and think he has been a terrific ambassador for NC State. At the same time, there is a reason the head coach of a baseball team is called a manager, at least on professional baseball. My take on Avent through these last few games is that he is a really good coach and a less than stellar manager. A good manager would have taken Nance out at the end of 7 and put Dudan in. We were up 6-5. In a single elimination tourney, you go for the win.

Yea I can see that, felt like Clemson was playing for the double play there and it worked out for them. Ossenfort isn't the fastest guy either so maybe that played into the situation. In hindsight, they should have had Heavner just lay down a safety squeeze, which is what everyone was expecting anyways lol.

Obviously not Dudans fault, but just a question. He has a 98 mph fastball. Can he not locate it. Why all the sliders ?
The announcers talked about it last night during the game. Said he went from a 4-seam to a 2-seam fastball to try to get some more movement so they think he's just not as comfortable placing it as his 4-seam so he falls back to his other ++ pitch in the slider.

Yes, add in that he has closed out games this season (literally) only throwing sliders, he's comfortable with the pitch and its been working the last several weeks.
