He won't see it, but Dom would probably love to watch the last 10 secs of that interview. That's a Coach that loves & respects his players. Hell, wouldn't say he loves them…but he wasn't shy about giving the Heels their flowers.
9 is a class act and it'll hit HARD whenever it is that he decides to retire (&yes, I'm confident in the succession plan) because of his large personality and how he represents NC State

Also.. Go To Hell Carolina Go Pack!

Man loves NC State like none other. I've never scene anyone like him. The man so deserves a ACC Title. before he hangs up the cleats. He is so respected within the conference. Sort of reminds me of the level of respect Mike Martin had at FSU.

Absolutely.

It drives me nuts the people who discount what Avent has done just because he doesn't have a "title" I wish he would win one just to shut them up.

We have been so fortunate to have Avent. Also an CWS appearance is significantly better than a conference title.

That's not even considering the facilities he's had to work with over his tenure

Yes, facilities have been a major obstacle for Elliot his entire tenure at NCSU. Hrs mentioned it himself at places like the Raleigh Sports Club.

I've been following NCSU sports and baseball for over half a century now, and I have never seen a coach that loved this institution more than Elliott. He was one of us before he was hired, growing up a State fan in Nash County as a youngster, priming tobacco. Got to love him.

Why is it that EA hasn't been able to rally the troops over these decades to get the facility upgraded?

I don't know but Tanner was unable to do it either.

Things were much different back then than the last 25 years.

Because Todd Turner was the Athletic Director.

I read more than once that former players wanted to give money earmarked for baseball, but Turner demanded that the money had to go into the general athletic budget.

That's what happens when you hire an arrogant unc idiot. One of several bad hires we made following the Valvano firing.

From what I've read here, Debbie Yow didn't seem interested in helping Avent. I've read they didn't get along, and I've read where Avent respected her, so take your pick, maybe others know the truth.

She purchased him the Green Monster in center field during her tenure, and it seems like that was it in doing Elliott any favors.

Nothing's wrong- people aren't going to like to hear it, but we collectively don't give enough money to support all our programs and facilities. For an alumni base as large as ours, it's honestly embarrassing. That's the answer. We've got Gucci wants and a Walmart budget.

There is some truth in what you said. Yow wasn't a huge fan of EA but she understood what EA was up against. She also wouldn't allow funds earmarked for baseball. They had to go into the general fund. And no, there wasn't a wealthy donor wanting to donate to BB and Yow said it had to go to the general fund like some say.

College baseball has exploded since the late 90s and so has facility investment around college athletics.

lol I don't know specifically, but if I had to venture a guess… don't think it's Avent's fault for the slow paced upgrades and renovations to the Doak & facilities. I'm pretty sure he's been open and fairly outspoken about his hopes for the project(s) & improvements needed.
