Polar Bear goes deep twice. Leads the NL with 53 RBIs now. Leads the NL in doubles, top 10 in BA and HRs. Top 5 in OPS.

Mets officially take the season series from the Dodgers.

Alonso giving the Mets what they thought they were going to get from Soto.

For sure. He's proven to be the best off season signing as of now.

Soto has picked up over the last 5 or 6 games. Even has done the shuffle a handful of times this series vs LA for the first time all season, so maybe mentally he's getting in a better place.

Yep Soto will get going - not sure why he ever put the shuffle away. Hitting is so mental - not sure why he would change anything.

Mets ace Kodai Senga went down. Leading the majors with a 1.47 ERA, was covering 1st and had to leap to make a catch on an errant throw from Pete and came up with a hamstring injury.

Mets in a complete tailspin ever since Senga went down. Finding new ways to lose constantly.

Not just one thing…it's a lot.

They've given up more 5+ run single innings in the last 2 weeks than they had all season long.

3rd base has the lowest OPS in baseball during June.

The bottom half of the order has been almost not playable.

Still can't hit with RISP.

In the last 11 games the Mets starters have only gone 5+ innings twice.

Bullpen over worked and now paying for it.

Soto has been on fire, the rest of the team has sunk. Not sure why they keep trotting Young out there at DH. Alvarez sent down finally - he's broken at the plate and suddenly a negative defensively too. No one can claim the 3rd base spot - Vientos otw back but he's the worst defender of any of them and so far has been bad at the plate too. Mauricio can't lay off a breaking ball no matter where it's thrown and Baty, while has moments, has settled in as the same poor hitter he's been his whole career to this point.

Thankfully they built such a cushion record wise early on. They gotta figure it out quick.

The Mets will be okay. Every team goes into a rut like this at some point. It is hurting the Mets more because they are losing divisional games, which is a two-fer whenever that happens.

Good news
Mets in 1st this morning

Bad news
Mets rotation takes significant hit with Griffin Canning injury: 'It looks like an Achilles'
Clevelandwolf

Hard to believe they are in first after these last 2 weeks of dreadful baseball. But that's the beauty of that hot start, gives a nice cushion for hard times.

More good news is Soto. Dude is on fire.

Batting .325
Slugging .738
OBP .486
OPS 1.233
HR 10

Lindor and Pete have been slumping a bit, so it's been much needed. Mets still haven't really hit a stretch where all 3 were on at the same time. Vientos is due back soon, hopefully he can return to last season's form, if so the line up really looks good and gets much longer.

Right now Senga, Manaea, Megill, and Canning all are out from the starting rotation. Montas did look good in his first game back and Manaea is due back soon. The offense needs to get rolling because the pitching can't be counted on to keep up as the best ERA in the NL with so many injuries to staff that went into the season without what most would consider a true ace.

That's awesome!

Those kidcasts they do every year are great. It's surprising how talented some of these kids are at such a young age - especially to have the confidence to speak and do the broadcast like that. Pretty cool.

Five years ago, David Wright wrote about what it meant to play for the @Mets. Tonight, the team is retiring his number and inducting him into the Mets Hall of Fame: "September 29, 2018.
I'll never forget that day as long as I live.
The last time I had the immense honor of putting on that number 5 New York Mets jersey and taking the field for the best fans in all of baseball.

Well deserved! Maybe he can bring some good luck and give a few pointers to the youngsters trying to lock down the hot corner in 2025 in the orange and blue.

New York has currently lost 10 of 11 games. A division title seemed like a great possibility just two weeks ago. Now the Mets are in a dogfight for a Wild Card spot.

Team can't hit. Montas is throwing batting practice every 5th day. No starter other than Peterson can go 6.

They've gone 52 games now without a starter not named Peterson going 6. Longest such streak in the MLB since 1901.

Errors. Pitch clock violations leading to home runs. Hitting batters on 0-2 counts with the bases loaded. You can't make up some of the things that are happening to lose these games. It's mind boggling.

I cannot get over the Mets not having any starting pitchers who are innings-eaters.

I don't care how great your bullpen is, when it becomes a four or five-man job to get the last 12 -to-15 outs, the law of averages says that at least one or two of the relief pitchers are not going to have their best outing on a particular day.

Pete Alonso is a great New York Met. Tommie Agee and Howard Johnson also wore No. 20 with New York, but Alonso will rightfully be the last Met ever to wear that number.

I tip my hat to Pete, and I congratulate the New York Mets on getting a badly needed victory.

Was a great moment! Good to see some smiles and have a reason to celebrate and feel good after a long couple of weeks.

Maybe this is get the team going. Pete's been swinging a hot bat lately and if Alvarez can get going I feel like he's the one guy on the team who can be a spark/energy guy. He plays with fire and that can be infectious, hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

Also saw where they have called up a prospect to take Montas's spot in the rotation.
