25 games in...best record in baseball!

On the optimistic side - winning at this level while Soto hasn't got going yet, Vientos has struggled at the plate and McNeil, Alvarez, Montas and Menaea all haven't played a single game and Siri is also injured.

Glass half empty - No way this staff can continue at this pace right? And Polar Bear and Lindor will both cool off at some point.

I covered Lindor with the Mudcats. He's always had the confidence and the ability.

It's time for him to have the monster, MVP-type of season that everyone knows he is capable of. Lindor already lifts the Mets with his great demeanor and personality.

It should be his team. Lindor, through words and actions, should be taking the next steps.

This is Lindor's prime. He can lead the New York Mets to a title.

Lindor showed a lot of that leadership last year down the stretch. He was THE guy in every way leading into the playoffs and then in the playoffs. The big hits and moments and the way he carried himself.

He's matured light years from where he was when him and Baez were having little taunting hand signals with the fans back in the day.

Thrilled to have Soto, but this is Lindors team for sure.

Mets go down to the nasty Nats last night.

Early in the game the Nats turned a triple play … but it shouldn't have been. The ball short hopped the infielders glove but was ruled a catch and apparently you can't challenge an infield catch only an outfield catch? Weird rule. That cost the Mets a major opportunity to put up some runs.

However Vientos delivered a bloop triple with the bases loaded in the 8th to give the Mets the lead 4-3. Then in the 9th with a runner on 1st a grounder up the middle skipped under McNeils glove in his first game back and trickled into the outfield allowing the runner from first to score. Tough.

I like McNeil - but can't help but think Acuna makes that play all day long.

Brandon Nimmo ties a club record with 9 rbi yesterday against the Nats.

3 run homer
Grand slam
2 rbi double

He was set up to break the record with the nationals putting in Ahmed Rosario in the 9th and Nimmo was on deck with 0 outs and 2 runners on but Vientos went yard and cleared the bases.

I do not care for the NYM, but I did watch them in person handle the St Louis Cardinals last night 8-3. They're a contender for sure.

Never been to a game in STL. Seems like a fun place to catch a game!

St. Louis is a terrific place to watch a game. The museum there is a must visit for fans of all teams.

Growing up a Mets fan, the Cardinals were an enemy but I've no problems giving them their due. It is the most successful organization in the National League.

I was in STL (I live in KC) for a conference and it was my first game at Busch. Great stadium and atmosphere. Blues were playing Game 6 just a few blocks away, so the downtown area was jiving.

Let's Go Royals!

Doctors have officially recommended Tommy John surgery for Mets left-hander Danny Young. Assuming he opts to go that route, Young will be out for the year.

Not a huge Danny Young fan personally, BUT hurts a little more with AJ Minter out long term as well.

Ron Darling called it perfect last night after it happened, "Posing for a dramatic home run makes for great theater, posing for singles is embarrassing for everyone."

Ultimately I think all of this is overblown about Soto, they just played the Yankees in Yankee Stadium, he got booed and ripped and he didn't do much at the plate that series. Whatever. Last night was a bad look when you stand and admire a hit only to have it hit off the top of the wall and end up being a long single. Pete did the same thing in the first inning and got thrown out trying to go for 2nd. IMO Mendoza and/or Lindor/Nimmo have to set the standard verbally with Soto or anyone else if they aren't giving it their all.

Baseball is a long season, everyone goes through ups and down. NYC is a hard place to play, and Soto is under the microscope more than any player in the league. Lindor had quite a few bumps at first with NY. Beltran did. Now the fans LOVE Lindor. Soto will get hot and all this noise will settle down.

It's Memorial Day, so you know what that means, MLB fans. You are officially free to look at the standings and give credence to what you see!

Among baseball fans, the saying goes that you should avoid checking the standings until Memorial Day because by that point teams have finally played enough games through two months to add meaning to what we're seeing play out in every division.

Though your team's position in the standings today doesn't guarantee it will end the season there, there is something to the concept: According to Elias Sports Bureau data, 59% of teams (99 of 167) that were in sole possession of first place on the morning of June 1 have gone on to win their division in the wild-card era (since 1995, excluding 2020).

We asked ESPN MLB experts Jesse Rogers, Bradford Doolittle, Buster Olney and David Schoenfield to look at this year's standings and weigh in on what stands out most.

Soto, Lindor and Polar Bear all go yard yesterday. Mets complete the sweep of the Rockies and now have the best record in the National League, 37-22 and a major league best 24-7 at home.

Soto with back to back games with a Homer, maybe he's coming around?

3 game set at the Dodgers next up. Unfortunately lines up with the back end of the rotation.

Blackburn making his season debut tonight.
Megill Tuesday
Canning Wednesday.

Those 3 guys are all sort of battling for a spot in the rotation whenever Manaea returns.

Pretty wild stat. Mets win a thriller in LA 4-3 in extras. Vientos went down with an apparent hamstring injury in the 10th though.

Polar Bear goes deep twice. Leads the NL with 53 RBIs now. Leads the NL in doubles, top 10 in BA and HRs. Top 5 in OPS.

Mets officially take the season series from the Dodgers.
