The 9th was sloppy by Dudan for sure, but he got out of it at least 3 times. Twice with a double play grounder and once with a bad call behind home plate. Could've overcome the calls with better defense.

But you move on. This one won't matter at all. Think Liberty will be an RPI help for us. Good ball club.

I'll be worried when it is actually above 60 degrees and he is still pitching like this. So hard to gauge anything with pitchers when it's this cold.

Dudan's delivery is out of whack right now. His landing foot is not consistent. He will correct it and get back to last year.

Just some food for thought about mid week games.

I'm not sure about what I'm seeing from DeCriscio so far...is he just that SoCal smooth or has he been a lil lackadaisical at times? There's been a couple balls to him that I thought he should've charged harder in the first couple games. Because he's waited back, he's made the plays harder than they should've been (IMO). That DP ball was tough with the runner "hiding" the ball a bit but it's still a play that he's made a million times, even if he's just getting the out at first.

People losing their minds b/c of a loss in game 4 of 50-60 games is wild but mad fans gonna mad fan.

Definitely some things to improve upon but there's a lot of youth playing right now that will get better. And like jtilley said, tough to play ball when it's so cold.

Have a text from a good buddy, who might see this post, that says "DiCriscio sits back on the ball forever at SS - gives me anxiety". That was from the weekend games.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt early. He was a great defender at his last stop and is coming off a hamstring in the preseason. Plus he's hitting .700. It's mostly nitpicking because of how spoiled we were with Butterworth last season

Is it wrong? Pitching is our *assumed* strong suite. We have options if willy isn't 100% (don't expect him to be, tommy John is no joke)

8 errors last year in 49 games, 9 the year before in 44 games, two errors from from April on last year. If he was out with a hamstring that makes a lot of sense, I'd imagine he settles in as things go on.

Obviously disappointed to see us blow a 3 run lead in the 9th when we have Dudan on the mound to finish.
Overall, pitching has been great. Dudan and Willadsen have struggled but the core pitching is what we were expecting it to be.

Hitting and scoring has been better than expected so far. Or at least easing some concerns on where we're going to get our offensive production. Big positive.

Defense (mainly DeCriscio & McHugh) have struggled a bit. I think that will take care of itself as we go through the season. We seemed to start off last season with some struggles as well. Overall I think we'll be fine.

We know Dudan has great stuff. But it will be interesting to see how he performs this weekend in JAX and how the staff responds to him if he gets into more trouble. Long leash or does it become a little shorter?

Mid week games DO matter. Obviously the weekend series are more important but our struggles in mid week last year was the reason we didn't host a Super Regional IMO. On to JAX.

Like I said I am not worried about Dudan with the weather and it is still early but looking at his last five games pitched dating to last year it hasn't been great. I have said before I think guys started to figure him out some towards the end of last year and started sitting fastball on him and laying off the slider. If he isn't locating the slider he has struggled, and while the fastball has elite velocity, it is considered "Flat" with little movement.

Stat line from last five games (JMU last year): 5.1 IP, 7 ER, 8 BB's, 9 hits (2 HR), 8K's, 2 HBP. The most concerning thing IMO is in those 5.1 innings he threw 157 pitches.

Matt Willadsen is a proven piece that's pitched in a million huge games. You want him out there.
