Lucas, Mahron, Fanning, Van Dam, and Dudan gave up 1 run between them. You've got to try and eat innings with other guys on a Tuesday game with one day rest off the weekend series.
Just a guy on the sunshine squad.

What is frustrating is all these pitchers unable to even stay near the plate. I guess they are all working on mechanics. Ugly

Welcome to all the people who apparently have never seen a mid week baseball game before.

The No. 13 NC State baseball team dropped its midweek contest 18-3 against UNCG on Tuesday night at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Spartans (9-7) snapped NC State's nine-game winning streak and ended their five-game losing streak against the Wolfpack. UNCG scored nine of its 18 runs behind a six-run second inning and a three-run third frame to build an early 9-0 lead it never relinquished.

NC State (12-3) trimmed its deficit to 9-3 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Wolfpack loaded the bases with one out in the fifth before Garrett Pennington recorded an RBI groundout to make it 9-1. Alec Makarewicz, who entered Tuesday's game as the nation's leader in RBI per game, smacked his eighth double of the season for a pair of RBI to trim the Pack's deficit to 9-3.

Aidan Brewer's three-run homer made it 4-0 in the top of the second before a wild pitch and an RBI single from GC Jarman extended the Spartans' lead to 6-0. A solo homer off the left-field foul pole from Caleb Cozart made it 7-0 in the third before an RBI double from Brewer and an RBI single from Walsh stretched the lead to 9-0.

UNCG scored nine runs in the ninth to push the score to its final margin at 18-3.

Makarewicz paced NC State with two RBI and two hits. Noah Soles also recorded a two-hit performance with a run scored.

Cooper Consiglio (1-2) suffered the loss for the Wolfpack, while Brandon Hudson (1-0) earned the win after tossing 1.1 scoreless frames in relief of UNCG starter Julien Peissel.

I am not as knowledgeable about baseball as I am about basketball and football. I know you can have a bad day and quickly regroup. In other words, just flush it. But, it is alarming that we gave up 16 runs on Sunday and 18 runs on Tuesday. If nothing else, hopefully the team is embarrassed by that and will refocus because Ga Tech will be a handful. This weekend will give us a better feel hopefully as to where we are at. Go Pack!

Correct it does.

Midweek games for teams from smaller conferences are their chance to get statement wins against good teams and could be the difference between making the tournament or not so they are extra motivated . Not the case for us. We started a true freshmen who before yesterday had thrown 4.1 innings this season with 4.0 of them coming against Queens. They started a guy who looks to be their 2nd best arm who also started in their win against Wake.

So our pitching depth isn't all that after all… ok.

The five guys who threw yesterday who project to be part of our regular rotation of arms were very good. I would have liked to see Labriola start, he is a good mid week type, but he threw twice this weekend, and likely couldn't pitch again on one day's rest. Had the game been today, our choice of pitchers may have been different. NC State isn't going to burn our top 8-10 arms on a Tuesday game with UNCG, and we shouldn't. Midweek games always mean more for the smaller conference team, it is the nature of mid week games (which is a condescension free statement for those keeping track). It definitely sucks that none of the unproven arms stepped up, and that our bats never got going, and I don't like losing in the least, but a quick glance at the baseball scoreboard will show that it isn't a unique occurrence.
