good grief, are they floating this idea of closing all the internal campus streets to traffic again? The campus architect was floating that idea in the 80s, when I was the student rep on some master planning committee...The faculty pitches a fit when someone proposes that they not be able to drive to the building where their office is.
Notice also that "Daniels Hall" is now "111 Lampe Drive"...Boy, has that dude become a persona non grata...
Like the Cates West Hub. Lee, Sullivan, and Bragaw are WAY past their shelf life, and reflect a 1970s approach to dorm living that today's students just don't go for...
Plan also calls for getting rid of Case, moving it to site of current softball stadium, include general student dining there as well, and turning site of Case into the campus bus hub. All seem like good ideas; the current system where the buses pick up and drop off along congested campus streets seems inefficient and impedes traffic.
And does anyone else think it's insane that they aren't trying harder to replace the at-grade pedestrian crossings at Avent Ferry and Western? Why not, as part of Bus Rapid Transit plans, but pedestrian underpasses there to connect Mission Valley/Centennial Campus in a way that doesn't require students and bicyclists to cross basically a six lane thoroughfare?
They also appear to have completely abandoned the idea of any sort of monorail/light rail system to connect main and Centennial campuses. It was always a moonshot idea, but isn't a master plan where you put your wishlist? We waste 10's of millions of dollars in this State on much dumber things...
A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.
