Should be encouraging for Mako and Sosa to make it to campus then right? What about Banks? Was he expected to go today?

Correct on the first two, but nothing 100%. Banks- it sounded like if he is drafted at all he will go. He was in the 300s for overall draft board which is like rounds 10-13 or so.

Yep on Mako/Sosa, odds are good we see them in Raleigh.

Banks (and really any of the juniors) nothing has changed, if they get drafted tomorrow they are probably gone.

It will be 2 to 3 times that number.

Over the last two years of the 6 kids to not sign drafted in the top 10 rounds only one was a HS kid.

He's gonna get 1.5 to 2 mil IMO.
If my math is right their pool is only $6.5m which is real small and think they may have to go over slot with Nimmala in round one. I think Maroudis will get less than what you mentioned, but we'll see
You guys could be right but last year HS pitchers selected in the 4th round signed for a high of 3.7 and a low of 1 mil on the nose. 2021 HS pitchers in the 4th round signed for a high of 1.5 and a low of 497.5K. The low was a kid from Puerto Rico and they usually sign and for less money.

If Landen signs for anything less than 1 mil his advisors and parents failed him tremendously, especially since he's considered a tough sign, apparently. I'd also love for him to be only the 2nd HS kid to not sign and end up in school.

We will see and I generally think you are right on the money with him not making it to campus. Guys drafted that high I feel like surely have already had these conversations with the MLB club and they know what he will want before selecting him and what he will accept to sign.

That said, each kid and family has their number. Family friend's son is committed to UNC and had about half the MLB teams in to see him over the spring. Number that he and his family worked out that they would need to go pro instead of going to the ACC school he had signed with was north of $1.5 million. And he's a kid ranked way lower than Maroudis was. Just depends on the individual and what they really want to do and what is important to them.

We knew going into the draft that if we could end up getting 2 of three of Sosa, Maroudis, and Mako to come to school it was a win for the Pack. Anything extra is gravy. As CLT says above, lots of reasons to consider Maroudis gone until proven otherwise.

Thanks for the updates everyone (CLT). Frosh class looking good. Hoping that Banks, Britton, and Harrison do not go tomorrow. Have no idea what our 4th and 5th year guys will do. Will be interesting.

I didn't expect Banks to go today nor Sosa. The question for Banks, IMO, is does he value 100-125K (or less) more than a year at NC State? Is he ready to be a pro now?

The question for Sosa is can he make more after 3 years at State? If he plays up to his rankings, the answer should be a loud yes.

Mako? Draft eligible as a SO and (IMO) he needs a year or to get bigger as he's pretty thin. If he plays up to his ranking will he sign for more than $150K-$400K? Another loud yes.

Brother there's a 0.0016 chance of him making it to campus (so you're saying there's a chance! lol). 1 HS kid over the last two years has turned down top 10 round money and he was a JUCO kid that went to Yavapai for a year and then Miami-Dade for year two. He's currently committed to UF but hasn't been very good at the two JUCOs so far.

Having said that, if it were my son and the Jays were offering anything less than a mil, I'm going to college. If he plays up to his ranking he'll make 2 to 3 times that in 3 years.

Staff
My 2 cents.

Getting Banks to come pitch a season for us would be a luxury, but I'm not crushed if we can't bring him in.

Sosa/Mako getting to school is big time. Gives us a really strong recruiting class. Very hopeful for that.

Most important to me would be bringing back the majority of the pitching staff. Hating the pitching coach is the same as hating the offensive coordinator, but our potential returning staff + a year of development has a chance to be elite. Highfill, Willadsen, Whitaker, Lawson, and Britton returning would give us a ton of depth. That's what I'll be watching closest (Lawson, Britton, Highfill draft).

Yeah I got frustrated as a lot of others did with Chrysler at times but I think a lot of that had to do with Highfill still recovering from injury and then moving him and Fritton around. Bullpen came on late, especially Britton, which was also a pain point early in the season. Whitaker and Willadsen were solid all season though and hard to ignore their success there. There's always going to be some shifting around but if the coaches can define roles for everybody earlier in the season the pitching staff has a chance to be really really good. Assuming there's no surprising departures of course. Feels like you have to add that caveat every year now haha.

No but he'll have a chance. Too many moving parts right now, but if we feel good about the backend of the pen that could allow fritton to start. Gotta assume if willadsen is back, he is penciled in. That leaves the Sunday spot which mako would have a chance to grab. People like highfill, fanning, maybe rio Britton, win Scott, etc will get a long look there

IMO no. Right now he's a guy that can bring it for an inning or two and then the velo drops a bit. I think he could be a good closer where he could come in and gas it for a inning or two and shut it down. I think he could also be a guy that starts out in the pen and then moves into a Sunday type role depending on his strength progression. So many options for a kid like Mako.

Did Highfill have surgery on his back? What exactly was the issue? He was def. not the pitcher he was before the injury. I'm wondering can he get back to that pitcher he was or is the injury something that will always affect him?

As talented as Fritton is and as good as he was last season I don't see how you don't start him. In this new world of the transfer portal i'd guess that he won't be here for year 3 if he's not starting. The new reality we live in as well as him being one of, if not our most talented arm makes him along with Willadsen a lock to start next season (assuming we get Willadsen back. Fill in the rest around those two.
